What's for breakfast?!

Recommended Posts

I really like the Pure Protein bars too. I get them at Sams. But, I don't generally have a Protein Bar or Protein shake for Breakfast anymore. For Breakfast I generally have an Oikos triple 0 greek yogurt (15 gms protein) and about an hour or so after that (I am STILL hungry!!) I have a P3 (meat cubes, cheese cubes and some unsalted nuts-prepackaged) 13 gms Protein. I am soooo hungry in the mornings!

@@Elode I don't like exercise either. All I really care to do is walk. And then it's generally just from place to place. But if I have someone to chat with, I'll walk forever. :)

Anyone try Carbquik? I've been craving pancakes so I ordered some on Amazon. It's a little pricey but cheaper if you buy 2. 1 box for 20 or 2 boxes for 28. But I made pancakes for my boys and me this morning and they were pretty good. They are not as firm as normal pancakes but they taste good. Just on the soft side.

On the weekends I look forward to my cottage cheese pancake (doesn't sound good but it's yummy). Made with cottage cheese, oatmeal and an egg, all blended in my mini food processor. I add vanilla extract, Splenda & cinnamon for flavor. I also have either bacon or turkey sausage with it.

During the week, I keep it simple. It's either 80 cal. Yoplait Greek yogurt with a sprinkle of blueberry granola for some crunch or I order an omelette from the deli at work & coffee, coffee, coffee.. That's a must EVERYDAY!

Today it was oatmeal with a little raisen and honey. Not picture worthy.

I eat about 4.5 oz dannon oikos triple zero vanilla yogurt with an oz of (thawed) triple berry frozen mixed berries over top each morning for breakfast. I do find that it fills me up, but I get hungry a couple hours later so I always pack a cheese string for a mid morning snack.< /p>

Elode,

Don’t worry – I sure wouldn’t judge someone who’s lost over 100 lbs in 11 months!

I love lox! Smoked salmon is great in terms of convenience and taste, plus Protein and healthy fats. I worry about the sodium, since a serving can have your entire sodium quota for the day. I also worry about nitrites, which are used as a preservative just like in processed meats (like ham and turkey breast and other deli meats). They’re carcinogenic.

But I still love lox, especially with fat-free cream cheese. :)

Let’s see, my go-to for breakfast is probably Greek yogurt and blueberries. It’s easy, and healthy, and high-protein. I can grab it on the way out the door, and if I use frozen blueberries, I don’t need to go shopping for it too often. I can pick up what I need in a regular shopping trip.

I also love oatmeal. It’s so easy and healthy, considering how filling and delicious it is. If I feel the need, I can have a hard-boiled egg white for some Protein. Egg whites and liquid egg substitute are great – you can make them in minutes and add whatever you want, like cheese or turkey or vegetables, and call it a breakfast scramble.

Proudgrammy…I remember those dozen donut days!

@@Alex Brecher I've used the egg beaters southwestern style. I like to sautéed veggies, turkey crumbles, and cheese in a muffin pan and cover it with the egg beater. When it's done baking it makes perfect portions for on the go. I just grab one and heat it for 45 seconds. That's one of my favorites when I'm working and have to be out of the house by 4:30 am. I can't be in the kitchen banging things around trying to cook so it's perfect.

@@Inner Surfer Girl my dietitian says there isn't good evidence to support the idea that eating breakfast will boost your metabolism. Since my problem is that I tend to get hungry in the late afternoon and evening, I can eat less in a day if I push breakfast to 11 and lunch to 3. If I eat breakfast early, I'll end up eating those calories again later in the day. So instead of finishing at 1100 calories, I'll finish at 1300 -- and even if I did boost my metabolism a little by eating earlier, it isn't enough to make up for the extra calories I'll end up eating. So far it is working for me, I am losing steadily on this plan.

I was up a pound this morning. (damn scales!) So, I just had a scrambled egg for breakfast today. No dairy. (I hear if you avoid dairy it will jumpstart the losing process again....so I am testing that theory). I had a hard time finishing that one egg. What's up with that??? :) Have a great Sunday everybody!

I made my oat brand and it was fabulous!! I added cinnamon, fresh blueberries, vanilla and a touch of Splenda brown sugar! So good! Just as I suspected I could only handle 1/2 of a serving but that's ok! I took a picture of my healthy breakfast next to my husbands and what I USE to eat. It's amazing and I don't miss it one bit!!! I cooked it for him.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
