Surgery is in 1 day now. Nervous!

You will do great!!! Excited for you & you will look back & be so glad you did it! Today is 3 weeks for me! And still very glad!

I keep thinking that it has surely been at least a month, but nope, lol, just three weeks! Crazy!

Well here we are at the last of our Surgery Pals for October going in tomorrow! Wishing you all very good outcomes!!! I hope it turns out as successful as mine with limited pain!

Its hard to believe how fast this month has flown by!!! Wishing you all the best you can be during this journey together!!

Sending prayers to @@395Ron that he heals from his complications! And anyone else who may be struggling with there post op!!!

Has there been any news of Ron?

I have a cautionary tale for you, my fellow post-surgery mates…

Last night I was in a hurry to get to my son's football game. I warmed up my dinner, a kinda pita pocket hamburger (it was a "diet" food, low carbs/sugars, etc., frozen section of Kroger)… I was excited because I am now allowed regular foods and this was the one of the first "regular" things I've eaten in over 6 weeks.

So! I. ate. too. fast :( Just as I was sitting down to watch my son's game, I felt it… a pain in my lower chest… some of my dinner was stuck. I did not chew well, like I know that I am supposed to do. It was so awful. I broke out in cold sweats and, though I could breath, could not stop gagging. I had to go to the parking lot, hide between cars, and vomit my saliva (heard it referred to as "the foamies"). After about the third time, a small piece of food came out. The piece was not anything that I would have had a problem with pre surgery… honestly, it was tiny by normal standards. Even after I threw it up, I continued to vomit saliva, that I was unable to swallow, for about another 5 minutes.

Following advice I found online (yes, many others have experienced this horrible experience, apparently), I have been on liquids only for 24 hours. From what I have read, no long term ill effects can be expected, but inflammation is common.

I knew I needed to take small bites and chew, chew, chew, but I became over confident and rushed too damn much…I've learned my lesson, for now! Hopefully, my own little post-bariatric surgery nightmare will help you guys remember the rules and avoid such an unpleasant (and scary) situation in the future.

No I haven't heard anything. I 'm so hoping he is alright! Ya the chili recipe has a lot of ingredients, hope you like it, let me know! I had a small episode of eating to fast talking on the phone & eating, just got to the stuck & uncomfortable. My husband has to tell me sometimes to slow down. I chew well but try to go back to eating to fast. I haven't weighed again but feel like I may have lost another 5 lbs. My scale is different than my dr.'s so I don't want to get discouraged. So If I'm right I have lost 10lbs since surgery day. Not alot, but way better than if I hadn't had the surgery plus not starving!!!

Had surgery 20/28, doing better then I was, still trying to manage getting my fluid down. Been doing a lot of walking.

Glad your doing better!! I still have to keep reminding myself to drink!!! Before we know it we will be buying new cloths!!

I've been SO sleepy, I think that's why I haven't felt the need to drink ANYTHING. But I get to go HOME today to SO I'm happy

Im 10days post op is it to early for mash potatoes?

My doctor wanted me to wait 2 weeks, and I had refried beans for the protein at that time. Call your Nutritionist & see what they recommend.

Yea!!! Your not getting good sleep in the hospital, I was exhausted when I got home. You probably won't want to drink much when you get home either, you just have to make yourself. Have a safe trip home!

Thank you i will

Lisamarie. I think mashed potatoes are off limits for me forever. Wasted carb calories with no protein. My nutritionist would croak if I asked her that. Plus I want to respect my sleeve and not cheat it. Been thru too much. Why do you even want mashed potatoes?
