Official November Bypass thread

Recommended Posts

I'm hoping for a November date but I'm really not sure if I will make it. I get psych eval on Monday. Then just two more weeks with Nut, immediately followed by blood tests. When I say all that it doesn't sound like I'll get it in November. I asked my surgeon's caseworker how long it usually takes from the first visit until surgery and she cautiously told me three months so maybe. My first appt was August 13. Maybe I'll be there. I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high.

Dar 200. That's exactly how I feel. I battle with myself to not eat junk. I have thrown out.the pretzels....but my stepson likes chips and I can't deny him. He and my husband are preparing themselves for the big change coming in the cupboards. LOL. They.may.come sooner than expected. Will be on steroids thru the end of the year. I do fine during the day. But when I am home aline at night...it's like some starving lunatic.takes.over.

I am excited to see this page. I have been going through 5 months of diet and pre op things to get ready for my November 19th date for sleeve Surgery. I'm almost done with all of my requirements. Only meeting with the NUT again and my psych eval then wait on insurance approval.

Hi everyone!! I was in the October forum and then today happened:angry:got a call from my surgeons office and they told me there was some mix up with dictation which has caused a delay in submitting to insurance. So last Tuesday I was under the impression I was waiting for approval and today I find out it hasn't even been submitted. So now she says the first week of November, maybe Nov 6 she says. Getting closer and closer to the holidays and that's gonna make it hard for me because I'm not telling my family. Starting to really freak out a little but I'm glad to be here in the November group ^_^

Awww that's terrible!! I am glad they finally got things straightened out. Glad to have you with us :)

I had my lap band placed on Nov 17th 2011, so I was able to avoid all of those typical Thanksgiving foods. It will be a breeze for all of us because....we won't have those hunger pains from those pesky hormones! We will fly right through the holidays with no problems except maybe head hunger. Our stomachs will be swollen for a while and that also will help because we won't have that typical hunger...yay!

If we can survive through the holidays, we can survive through anything! ;)

The hardest part is waiting for your date to roll around and for things to happen quicker. I think the anticipation is far worse than having the surgery!!! Would you all agree ? Lol

Definitely! I originally wanted surgery near thanksgiving, but as time went on, i kept wanting to get it sooner! I was surprised I was able to get an October date, since i had heard my surgeon's office usually has to schedule dates a month or more out!

Hi everyone. I am also hoping to have surgery in November. I originally planned for the sleeve, but have since changed my mind. I have reflux and I found out during this process that I have diabetes. It was a hard decision to switch to bypass because I had my mind set on the sleeve for so long, but I know I will do better with bypass in the long run.

I am have my last nutrition visit for my 6 required by my insurance- #6 is on 9/25 and I am so excited! After my visit on Friday, I will have all requirements met and then my surgeon's office can submit for insurance approval. Wish me luck! :)

Welcome to you both. Happy to have you join us. ;)

@@cassie32104 - I am sorry to hear of your recent diagnosis, however the bypass will definately help you. I have a friend who was insulin dependent and had bypass and is doing so well!. She was able to get off insulin, but she does check her sugar every so often because she can get hypoglycemic at times. I am curious what the nutrionists have to tell you over 6 visits that they can't tell you in one visit? That is actually really good that you get so many visits! I hope your visit goes well!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
