I did that for a little frozen treat pre-op. It was great!

I was also told not to drink Gatorade, I'm assuming because of the high sugar content? Besides the other things mentioned here, my nutritionist suggested Propel, but I've never tried it. I've seen it at Walmart and it comes in a variety of flavors. I guess I'm weird because I don't mind drinking Water. Hopefully that won't change after surgery!

@leag78---I feel your frustration. I also do get tired of Water. I put fresh lemon in mine everyday, but I still get tired of that. I have to stay away from artificial sweetners as much as possible, so crystal light products are out.

I drink ice tea on occasion, that helps. My surgeon says no caffeine though, so I have to watch that. I wasn't sure why the no caffeine rule. I asked at my last appointment and they said too much can lead to dehydration. I had an issue with this just a few days before my last appointment. I had been drinking diet Snapple and regular ice tea a lot for about a week. I started noticing my urine (sorry, TMI) was smelling really strong and I had an aching in my kidney area.

After telling my Dr. about this, and ruling out a UTI, he said it was because of the over use of caffeine. It had started causing dehydration and starting effecting my kidney. So I increased Water ALOT and that quickly took care of things.

I also miss carbonation. I had checked out those ICE drinks too and had to quickly say no! But I had taken just a sip of my son's soda one day and I was instantly in pain. (my pouch area actually had a burning sensation) NOT worth the carbonation! ;)

It is all a life changing process, so we just have to take each day as it comes and learn from each other as much as we can.

Sometimes, even though we know the right answer, it's good to hear validation from others! :)

I hate Water, and it's effecting me horribly, I get such dizzy spells I almost fall over. Water is so important, but I just can't stand it any longer. I've been forcing myself to up it to almost 30 oz a day which is huge compared to what I've been drinking for the past ten months (about 8 oz a day). I did start drinking mineral water with lemon a month or two out from surgery just to get some hydration into me, I like lots of ice, lots of lemon and it was delightful, made me burp a few times, but no adverse effects, but sadly I just keep forgetting about it. Protein shakes and water are two things that have been the most difficult to manage with this surgery, everything else is a breeze!

@@Cody's mom, I've also been getting dizzy spells lately. Do you really think they come from th Water? I talked to my doc about it and he believes that it's because I'm not drinking enough water, but I'm getting a little over 70 ounces a day.

@@Inner Surfer Girl, I am already suffering, the dizzy spells are so bad I have to hang on to something, I can't even open my eyes some mornings when I'm laying in bed things are spinning so bad. I just can't stand drinking it anymore, I'm trying everything possible. If I try to hard it just comes back up on me. I was up to 32 oz a day, but have fallen behind again with only 16 for the past few days again, but that is better than my less than 8 oz a day in the past. This is my only drawback from the surgery.

@@leag78, no then it's not a hydration problem with you, maybe just moving too fast, or getting use to the lower caloric intake. My Water intake is so low some days less than 8 oz a day, I went weeks like that, then was able to increase it slightly, but my max with great effort is 32 oz, but most often much less.

As one who struggles with getting enough Water, I understand! My nutritionist just this week told me about MiO drops. You add them to the Water, and it works much like Crystal Light. I am not a fan of Crystal Light, but the MiO Orchard Apple is delicious. The berry Pomegranate is good too. She did tell me not to use the MiO Energy drops.

My goal is to drink 32 ounces of plain water and 32 ounces of flavored. Hoping that breaking it enough with variety will help. :)

Cody's Ma -- do you think you could drink skim milk? I resort to it, kept very cold, when I get tired of Water, also mix a bit of EAS chocolate Protein powder in it sometimes. Skim milk is 85% water!

I was one of those People that cannot stand the taste of Water after surgery. I am told it will eventually go away. I have crystal light but they can be a bit too sweet for me. I found the orange crush liquid Water Enhancer and co swear it tastes just like the soda without carbonation. I just saw that they have the packets likeccrystal light now.

The difference between wine and soda is the carbonation. The gas that the bubbles in soda cause may be uncomfortable even painful on your sleeve. Also when you tummy is full of gas, you have no room for food.

The additives may help change the Water. You NEED Water to live. If you are getting headaches, you aren't drinking enough. Figure out a way to get in your water.

If you must have something fizzy, an all natural alternative is kombucha tea. It is naturally fizzy so it may still cause gas in your tummy, but it not a bottle of chemicals like soda. I'm 10mths and I haven't had kombucha since my pre-op days. However I don't drinks sodas and drinking water isn't an issue for me. I used to buy my kombucha from Whole Foods.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
