Surgery 6/11 strange thing to say...

Recommended Posts

I am a little nervous and excited at the same time. Its strange to say I am excited to have the opportunity for the surgery, the pain is an unwanted perk from surgery, but I am still exited. I am also nervous even though I have read and reviewed numerous reviews of what to expect, I don't know what to expect. I can't sleep as I am up typing this post. Question, can I where my pajama bottoms while in the hospital after surgery or must I where the awful gown for easy access? Pray for me guys.

Not so strange! We all (for the most part) felt the same...why NOT be excited for it?! It is a wonderful thing to do for yourself!

If you haven't yet, you may wish to attend an informational session at your Doctor's office to get he facts on what to expect. Or, there are lots of books out there on the subject, and of course you can always use the search function on this site to see what others have experienced.

You probably will have to wear the gown, but bring your own robe!

Good luck on your surgery!

I wore a gown and then these ugly shorts or underwear. And I had to wear a diaper or something haha because they give you muscle relaxer and that means some pee can come. That didn't happen to me though but I had a very difficult time peeing for the first 2 days. Not painful, just took long time.

You are then covered in your surgery, and you are kind of standing in it but they tie you down so you wont fall ;)

I swear I could not pee normally for over a week. That was the strangest experience and I have had many surgeries on my life. I struggled to pee for a long time. Again I wonder if it has anything to do with all the gas they pump into you?

CONGRATS! i wore a gown the first day and then later that night when i woke up and started walking around i begged BEGGED for them to remove my catheter so they did and then i put on jammies, i slept better in my own clothes for some reason!

I wore the gowns, I figured, why dirty up my own clothing, if I can avoid it. I brought my own underwear, so as soon as the catheter was removed, on went the panties. I felt more comfortable then. Not so exposed. I fashioned a robe out of another gown. and tied up the ends in a knot so I wouldn't trip, because evidently if you are big, you must also be tall? LOL

It all worked out, fine.

I wish you all the luck, I know it's scary right now because you don't know what will happen, but we are here, ask us anything, we'll tell you! It's very normal for you to be running the gamut of emotions you are too. Just so you know you're fine! :)

I didn't have a catheter and put on my panties as soon as I got up from the bed. I just used the gowns there...one with the opening in the back & another opening in the front (like a robe). I was in the "bariatric" area, so all of the gowns were the larger size...so no worries. I don't think I would have had any problem with putting on my own pj pants, but the elastic waistband, even though it wasn't tight, was a bit irritating to my incision sites when I got home.

Good luck tomorrow! Try to relax if you can - it's exciting/scary, but I'm sure you will do fine :D

Good luck tomorrow! Like the others' I wore two hospital gowns for my strolls down the hall. I'd recommend extra panties, because you can't trust a fart in those early days. Congratulations for taking this first step toward a healthy, new you!

Good luck tomorrow. I insisted cath would come out when leaving recovery. Then after my first trip of many to the toilet I put on my PJ bottoms. Peeing was hard at first, walk walk walk to help w the gas.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
