Hey everyone!

I am 10 days post op and I'm kind of scared with the way I am tolerating food so well. By no means do I ever wish to have dumping syndrome, but in the back of my head I am always prepared. At this point I am in the soft food stage and I have eaten things that I would have eaten normally before surgery without a problem whatsoever. Although I am only able to eat a very little amount and feel satisfied and I don't gorge myself like I used to, it still just doesn't seem right that I can be tolerating so well. I know you're probably thinking "well don't eat it if you feel guilty then" but that's not it, I just wonder if this is normal for some? Especially so soon after surgery.

I have never had any bad symptoms from eating. I actually went through a period where I questioned whether or not they did the surgery at all. Just chew well, eat slowly and listen to your body. You will be great!

Its weird because people here are telling me that they have to do liquids for two weeks after surgery before they can do pureed. My surgeons team started me eating pureed two days postop in the hospital. I'm tolerating quite well but second guessing why I'm able to start pureed so soon, am I doing the right thing?? I paged my surgeons resident to question it when I got home to be sure I'm doing the right thing. I received

A packet of foods I can have liquids & pureed. I'm happy just listen to the surgeon and follow their directions.

Hi everyone - this is the first time I have ever even tried a chat room. I am 14 days post surgery and have been on a liquid diet since May 13th. My surgery was May 27 and I'm being told that I have to continue a liquid diet for another 2 weeks. I cannot do it anymore. I gag at the smell of broth, I gag at the sight of Isopure, Water feels like metal in my mouth and I am hungry. I don't know anyone that has need to be on Clear Liquids for 6 weeks, I am so weak and tired, My friend had her bypass done by a different surgeon and was on full/soft when she left the hospital and is doing fine. I don't want to defy my doctor but I'm not sure what he is thinking. I had an egg today and tolerated ok. I had a little bit of pudding and I was fine. I need to know what type of foods I can eat at this time because I am going forward with the next step. Debbie

My surgery was may 27th as well and I'm eating regular food... Just soft regular foods... My body does tell me if it doesn't like sumthin... Lol and orange juice made me vomit immediately! But it's just trial and error... Trust your body

You should follow your doctors advice. I was on soft foods by then, but I don't know your doctors rationale.

it's really insane how different some of our post op directions are. i, too, was eating soft foods by day 2, and in two days/2 weeks post op, i am allowed to eat just about any healthy thing. talk to your drs, surely they have their reasons.

I actually thought the same thing!!! I wondered if they really did the surgery...lol but I'm losing weight and eating pretty much regular foods so they must have done something... 30 pounds lost in three weeks as of today!

Fascinating post! I feel the same way. I've been on Soups since 3 days post op. As soon as it became a little more easier to swallow, I was taking in soups and it's such a life saver. I literally cannot imagine what I would do if I had to be on liquids for another few weeks. That sounds horrible, and I say if you can take puddings and soups then do it! Slowly and in moderation. Although today I had some brocolli and cheddar Soup and immediately dumped! Not even sure if it was considered dumping because it was just immediate diarrhea, no shakes or chills or heart racing, or stomach pains.

I'm 4 months out and except for one instance of eating too fast I have not had any issues with eating anything. I have eaten all normal meats including steaks without an issue. I also don't have issues with gas despite eating cabbage, broccoli etc. But I have followed my surgeons regimen to a tee.

My surgeon went straight to purees as well. I had scrambled eggs for Breakfast in the hospital the day after surgery, and subsisted on pureed chicken taco meat and refried Beans for most of the first week. Every surgeon is different. Just follow the plan you were given.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
