Hey guys, just learned that I will be making the trip to Mexico for my Gastric Sleeve by myself. I'm really sad and scared. Is anyone else out there going that same day? Maybe others that have already gone there and had the surgery, do you have any tips or advice? I refuse to back out now, I've been wanting this for forever. Sigh. I'm sure it will work out.

P.S. Get popsicles from the gift shop. The room service Popsicles I had had no flavor (unless something changed) :)

Glad to hear you all are doing well.

The Marriott had pineapple Popsicles when I was there. And when we went shopping on Avenude Revolucion, I found the BEST hibiscus Popsicles. I also walked up to Walmart and got herbal tea bags (vanilla chamomile) and drinkable yogurt. I got my drain pulled the Monday before Christmas so OCC was actually closed for the holidays and we had the place to ourselves....just 5 patients that were sleeved on Friday, a nurse, Dr. So and Joel. But Gloria came in and made us chicken broth while we waited our turn to get our drains pulled and fluoroscopy. LOVE the OCC team!

Wishing you safe travels back home!

Hi Nurselori

I just thought id chime in and try and reassure you about going alone. The OCC will take very good care of you and the Marriot is fantastic. You will feel totally safe. I ended up meeting so many others that were going to the OCC and other hospitals it was like we became a little family. i did not go alone however i did hang out and relax in the lobby area alot by myself and it was amazing how friendly everyone is. Dont worry youll meet people... if not on here before you go, there forsure. Just know that those of us that have gone before you are here for support too. Your not alone. :)

Hello Everyone!

I just joined this board. I'm a newbie.... I originally scheduled my surgery with a different surgeon near me but after some time and research, I am going to go ahead and book my Gastric Sleeve surgery with Dr. Ortiz at the OCC for October 6th. I'm nervous, scared, excited! I'm traveling with my mom. We are from Southern California so we are driving to the San Diego airport and parking there so we don't have to worry about driving in Mexico. My mom is not 100% on board with me having the surgery in Mexico. A couple weeks ago, I didn't even consider the idea but after researching and reading these boards night after night and watching the youtube videos, it seems like the best option for me. I feel like it won't feel real until I'm actually there.

I was wondering if you guys have any advice on the surgery, pre-op, post-op, what to bring for the overall trip and to the hospital. Did you any of you have any problems with Marriott or the OCC? I can't seem to find a bad review about Dr. Ortiz (which is a good thing). I told my mom about these boards and reading it first hand from someone's experience and she was like, how do you know if they're real? Lol.. She's a little paranoid.

Any advice would be much appreciated. I will continue to read these boards every night to put my mind at ease!!

Also, how do you feel about telling others about your surgery? I was planning on telling my close friends and family but now that I'm going to Mexico, I have only told one close friend. Everyone is so judgmental about Mexico and I don't want to tell anyone that I'm having surgery in Mexico so I don't have keep justifying it to everyone.

Good morning all, my group is leaving TJ for home. We had a great experience at OCC , the team was lovely and kind. Very professional ! We all met some great and supportive people. All around a good experience. The staff at the marriott was amazing , so helpful and fun. They are well versed in the rules after surgery and are there to help in a second.

Now..... It starts :)

Good luck everyone:)

Hi Nurselori,

I just placed my deposit down today for surgery at OCC for October 6th.. I'm traveling with my mom but I'm still scared and nervous! I think it's just normal. My mom is not 100% on board with going to Mexico but she's coming to support me. She's very paranoid about Mexico and the safety but its just going from Point A to Point B, from the airport to the hotel and to the OCC. Try to read the "Dr. Ariel Ortiz and The Obesity Center?" Forum on here. Its has like 113 pages but it is SO informative and it helps me put my mind at ease that I'm doing the right thing. I keep second guessing myself but I want AND need this surgery. I haven't heard any negative reviews for Dr. Ortiz and the OCC so we WILL be fine. I just need to keep telling myself that. POSITIVE THOUGHTS. lol... I think I will feel a lot better once I'm there and see the place in person and meet the staff. Almost one month away! 2 weeks away from starting the pre-op diet. After I paid my deposit today, I was thinking, ok, it's real. I'm doing this. No going back now!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
