Recommended Posts

Hey everyone. Hope all is well with you all. I've been working like crazy and am now taking a few weeks off for vacation (yay!!). Doing well and loving my sleeve. I've developed a new horrible horrible habit- going to Ross! OMG- I'm so bad with the clothes shopping. I can't help myself if I see a cute dress- gotta have it. Hi- my name is Tamara and I'm a shopaholic :)

Good for you! Ross is a great place to shop while we are changing sizes so often. Pat

Hi Guys! Okay iv been researching getting the sleeve done in Tijuana! But got confused that there are two "Ortiz" - iv been talking with Janese from a lighter me - and have been doing a lot of research on Ariel ORtiz- and I really really liked Ariel Ortiz!!! But then realized that a lighter me would really be with Dr Elias Ortiz.... - I called OCC today and now I'm just super confused on who to get my surgery done from - yes Elias is much cheaper with a lighter me BUT I don't want to just go with who is cheaper of course .... But on the same breath iv heard so many good things about the process and surgery with " a lighter me /Elias Ortiz. - would love some advise!!!!!

Also when getting the surgery done with a lighter me - what hospital are you in ?? Mi hospital? Iv researched Jerusalem hospital not to crazy about that hospital so want to be clear on what hospital I would be in with what doctor.

Nickole

Hi I had my surgery with Dr. A Ortiz on April 18th of this month and I got it done at the mi hospital. I went alone but met people while I was there. He is a good doctor in my opinion. Going through a lighter me was helpful I can call or email with questions and they always get back to me they've been very helpful.

Hello Everyone and thanks in advance for your help.

I have been researching plication surgery for months now and is seriously considering having the procedure done with Dr. Ortiz in Tijuana. I love the fact that OCC is a Center for Excellence ,that  the team is highly experienced, and that Dr. Ortiz  holds a certification from the American Society of Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery. With all of that being said I am still very nervous about having surgery in TJ. I have read research studies on plication surgery and found that this is a favorable procedure and  is close to being approve here in the States by the FDA.  I would love to hear from current and former patients about their experience with plication with Dr. Ortiz and his team. I would like to know about any complications, follow up care, pre & post dieting and your overall thought and feeling about deciding to have this procedure done with Dr. Ortiz and his team. I have been turned down my insurance 3 times and feel that going south of the border is my last option since out of pocket expenses for this surgery here in the States is sooooo high and I cant afford it.

Thanks again

Emerald

You made the best choice. He and Dr. Martinez and their entire staff is top notch! I was there in April. You are in the best hands they do more surgeries than any other surgeon and have the best results.

I did not have a plication, I had a sleeve on December 16, 2013. You are in very capable hands! The team at OCC is second to none. I received better care in MX than I do here in the states and I say that without reservation. The follow up care has been good - I've never waited for than a few hours for an e-mail response when I have a question. After I requested my records I received them very timely.

Good luck with your procedure!

i have plication and zero complications

(also with the lap band).....the plication helps me feel (full)

and hence my signal to stop eating....however, my dr stressed

that if i continued to overeat/eat high fat/high calorie (liquid or food)

that no WLS would help.......

i wish you all the luck.

My husband is getting sleeved today. I am 13 lbs from goal and would like some cosmetics myself! I talked to Ora, who is the Ariel Center coordinator for cosmetics. ora@thearielcenter.com

She said I just need to send pics and tell what I want to get a price. Or I can have a consult while I am here for a minimal fee. I was going to send the pics weeks ago but I never got around to it! I need more time to save up $$ anyway.

You have done so well! I can't believe it's 7 months already! I've lost 60% of my excess weight. Now that spring is almost here I hope to do better. Yesterday there was still ice floating in our bay. I've never seen a winter like this one.

I had the surgery one month ago and feel really good about the decision.  I had it with Dr Ortiz and really liked the doctors.  I did not have a great experience with the tech who tried to draw blood but I think he was new.  The facility was clean and was up to date.  I have worked at hospitals in the past and feel like this was comparable to a surgery center in the states.  While we were in the waiting room the day before the surgery, there was another patient that had a small complication with a different surgery and she stated she called the facility and was taken care of right away.  I have had questions and emailed the nutritionist and the coordinator and gotten pretty quick responses.

I had a lot of regret the first few days after because I had a lot of gas pains but I feel pretty good about it now.  I have lost about 22 pounds since the I made the decision for surgery.  I liked that if things went wrong that plication was reversible.  I have since read a posts on other sites that say that may not necessarily be the case.  I am just starting soft foods and I am having a hard time with that because I feel super full after very little.  I realize that is the point of the surgery but it can get a little uncomfortable.  I found that using papaya extract helps with the stomach pains.   I do miss having something to drink while I am eating.  I am also missing carbonated drinks a little too.  I am still getting pretty tired when I try to do more than my usual daily routines but from what I have been told, that will go away once I am back to a regular diet.  All things considered, I would do it again.  Good luck to you.  I think you will like the results of your surgery.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad. Bruce and I were talking yesterday about how much we enjoyed your parents. Give your mother a hug for us.

We are well and happy to have survived the winter. it can only get better from here. Marilyn and her husband spent the winter in Florida. I expect them home soon. We have missed them.

Hi all, its so great to catch up with everyone and see updates and progress. B2B I can SO relate to the Ross comment. My biggest problem these days is keeping my pants from falling down! I like buying work out clothes better than regular clothes. I am having trouble making the shift to dressing in a flattering way rather than dressing to cover everything up. No more baggy and black! I am really addicted to Zumba now. I take 3-4 hours of classes a week. I think my staples may have had a little latin heat in them! I just can't get enough! I swung a golf club last weekend for the first time and signed up for golf lessons. I can't get over how life changing this surgery has been!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
