Do you miss anything about being fat?

Recommended Posts

There's a fantastic thread here on what folks will NOT miss about being fat. It's an incredible collection of so many things I'd been dealing with leading up to the surgery, and continues to be a great read: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/319355-what-is-everyone-not-going-to-miss-after-sleeve/

So here's a twist... is there anything you'll miss about being fat? I'm not trying to spark a riot or anything, but we all change so much in this process, I thought a look in the other direction might be interesting...

I'll go first: at 6' 4" I'm "big" no matter what my weight is. But at 475 highest weight, I was a force to be reckoned with. I recall an incident in traffic once where the car in front of me was braking hard, and rather erratically. I made a decision to put more space between us, but I made it a split second too late, because he braked hard again and I almost rear-ended him. This time he stopped, slammed it in Park and jumped out of his car to yell at me. So I got out of mine, and tried to say something... but he got one look at me, and walked quickly back to his car and sped off.

I'm a gentle giant, but it was kind of funny that I was deemed too big to mess with. Soon I'll be far less large, and the basketball jokes from my teen years will resume.

No, I can't think of anything I will miss. I didn't hate myself when I was fat, but I don't think I lost anything by losing weight.

As a larger me I worked as an officer in the prison system. The weight was a great way to put distance between me and the male inmates. Do I miss anything about being obese? Not at all.

I don't know if I will miss anything specifically about being fat, but I worry that I won't feel like "me" anymore. Does that make any sense? My size has always been a part of my identity. It's how I've seen myself and how others have seen me and I worry that I may feel like I've lost a piece of who I've identified as for my entire life.

LOL, Hell to the NO! Haven't missed being fat or all the associated misery even once. I wake up every single day and the first thought that crosses my mind is Thank God I'm not fat.

I didn't realize how much I used my body weight and had to relearn. There was a time when large heavy doors were kicking my ass.... I was missing having weight to throw around.

What I feared a little, way underestimated, I should have feaded alot was missing my protective fatsuit. After losing so much I was feeling uncomfortable in my new body. I am feeling good now but I went through a phase where I felt like people were looking at me. I felt like I looked, dressed, acted "wrong" or perhaps I felt unrecognizable even to myself. At the same time I felt beautiful and thrilled with my new healthy fit body. It was a headtrip. I recall a counselor saying how I was so comfortable in my skin but that was not the case out in public. I am so glad to have that weirdness behind me.

My strength. My weight helped me bust a door down to see why my mom wasn't picking up her phone after asking for help. It was the beginning of dementia for her.

I don't think this is a bad question. I don't miss anything about being fat, but sometimes I miss being able to eat away my feelings. The few times I've tried that now it has quickly resulted in puking my feelings right back up. Sometimes I miss being able to go out to dinner and eat like a normal person. Sometimes at the gym I miss being able to actually be good in MMA class. I'm too small now to be very effective at all and I generally just get bruised a lot.

Mostly though I would give up all of that all over again to be where I am now.

I'm only a little more than a week out of surgery but I'm probably going to miss being so intimidating - it's kinda weird, but I like finding out that people are afraid of me. It's up to me to keep that up when I'm smaller! ;-)

Well, just to be clear - I don't miss a damn thing about being fat. It was horrible - more horrible than I even realized during the DECADES I endured it. What I was mentioning were more the "adjustments" that I probably under estimated!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
