Recommended Posts

Hi guys! This support group is amazing, we have a huge huge group of only friends and supporters... Exchanging msgs, encouraging each other and a whole lot of love ???? (wifi love)

I m from India, I will be getting sleeved in Feb haven't discussed the date as yet with my surgeon. I m more excited and not so nervous, reading everybody's experience has just made me more and more sure that YES!!! I m getting this done for sure. I have struggled with obesity all my life, never in my life have I seen me thin or just overweight.... Always morbid obesity, approaching my 30's and all I m reminded of life long struggle of never being able to stick to a diet or lose the excess weight. I feel so supported here in the group, ppl out there just to encourage you, help you, clear your apprehensions.... All in all a crazy positive energy in here...

Hope we can help each other embark this journey and motivated.

And February sleevers? India sleevers? Let's share out doctors appointments, gas problems, Multivitamin intake ???? lets just talk ????

Current weight : 242 pounds

Goal weight : 142 pounds

Sleeve date: to be confirmed

More than nervous I m extremely excited about it.... Like super excited... But there are times when I get nervous thinking of the post op pain ???? will I be able to handle it?

Have you guys decided on what Protein shake will be your 'kryptonite' post surgery?

I have ordered some gas x strips, apparently that's like a MUST have item post op.

Hello, I'm new to this forum so I'm not quite sure how to navigate yet. Forgive me if I am posting in the wrong area. My surgery is scheduled for February 9th, a gastric sleeve. I'm currently struggling with the pre-op diet. I was instructed to drink three Protein Shakes a day and clear broth. I'm allowed to have sugar free Jello and Popsicles and unlimited raw veggies (unflavored). The shake Im using (bariatric advantage) is cloyingly sweet and I am having a hard time drinking it even once a day, let alone three. Adding Decaf instant coffee helps a little, but not enough to combat the nausea I feel while drinking it and for sometime after. The clear low sodium broth was also hard to tolerate. I "cheated" a couple of times and ate progreso 99% fat free vegetable Soups for dinner. On the days that I didn't have that Soup for dinner, I just had a sugar free jello snack cup. Meal times have become so miserable for me that I find myself skipping them altogether. I'm averaging (at most) 320 calories a day. I'm losing 1-2lbs a day, which has been great, but I am worried that I'm not getting enough Protein and nutrients to maintain a healthy body. I would love to hear how others are surviving their diets.

Even though my doctor told me I may not have to go thru a pre op diet phase... I still opted to start considering I wanted to get into the groove of losing weight. I take Isopure Protein Shake and it's ok, I don't hate it and clearly that can't be my only meal either. I got such severe headaches on zero carb consumption, that headache sustained for 3 ????days. Thankfully the headache went away and so did my diet, will try to jump back on the wagon!

My husband is scheduled for next Wednesday 2/11 and is suffering through the pre-op Protein diet now. I will be sleeved 2 weeks later on 2/25, so I start my two weeks of pre-op protein the day of his surgery! He is using the Celebrate protein in vanilla and mixes PB 2 with it and it tastes ok. The Premier Protein chocolate is property good too. I am very picky so I am not sure how much I will get down. I have also ordered the sample pack of Syntac nectar flavored protein which are suppose to be more like juices than shakes!.....I will let you know ????! Best of luck to everyone and I look forward to going through this journey with all of you!

How many of you have already started your sleeve journey?

I m still a sleeve virgin ???? waiting for my mine to be done soon, can't wait to sit discuss with you guys about my journey....

For all the girls out there... How bad is the hair fall? Was thinking of starting minoxidil 2% way before surgery, so my hair won't just fall like crazy... If I can control the fall even by 1%, I love my scanty hair ????????

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
