BJean,

Did you have a problem with the Band or has it stopped working for you?

Absolutely no offense taken!

Glad you're free of LB issues.

Unfortunately I am considering the sleeve. I have gone to the sleeve website but there's not a whole lot to read. Someone has already used my name there and I can't think of another one so I haven't logged on to ask questions. Duh. Surgery is a while off in the future.

My doctor's office is having some of their patients call me so I can ask them about the things I'm worried about. Doctors don't seem to volunteer anything if it is something that might slow you down from allowing them to cut. Only semi-serious... I like my doctor a lot.

I hope whichever you choose works for you!! Glad there are so many options for all of us! Keep us posted!

Hey k-man! Yes, the answer to both is yes. I probably have developed another hiatal hernia and the band may have slipped enough that there is no "sweet spot" to be had for me.

I'm like Leigha. I would not be happy to just have the band removed. That's what my husband wishes I would do. Because the sleeve is so permanent and such a drastic measure. Which is why I got the band in the first place. I thought it was something that could quite easily be removed if I didn't make a success of it.

Well that's not true. Removing one after 3.5 years is a pretty big deal. I know a lot of people have it done, but there are always adhesions after this long and that gets to be a sticky wicket - if you'll pardon the expression.

So I'm still in the process of making the decision. I go for an upper G.I. soon and that will at least give me the physical reason why the band hasn't worked out well for me. Not only do I not want to gain back the weight I've kept off, but I still have 40 more lbs. to lose.

My doc did say that the most successful sleeve conversion patients are the ones who were initially very successful with the band. Which I do find troublesome and that's why I am wanting to talk to people. I sure do not have one of the most succesfull band stories.

Are you asking for a reason other than simple curiosity?

Many of those morons in Texas need to just get it over, seceed from the nation, and take that icky Chuck Norris with them. (Steven Segal is WAY cooler. )

When I heard that the Congressman who said 'Baby Killer' was from Texas, I just rolled my eyes and thought .. FIGURES!

Steven Segal was a wife beater...I guess that's way cooler than being a real man like Mr Norris lol..... :o

He was? Well, that's not so cool.

But he did work on a political prisoner case with me about 15 years ago, and I respected him for helping out with that.

But Chuck Norris is just .. ewwwwww ... maybe if he shaved or something. He looks like a little hairy rat. Oh, and he supports HUCKABEE! Yuck.

katlaws... a political prisoner case? Steven Segal? Tell us more!!

Chuck Norris is a gun totin' redneck. He has always portrayed such single-dimension characters and when you see him in person, you realize that he probably wasn't acting. I know. I know. How do I really feel about him...

Oh, I’m just curious. The band has been wonderful for me and I am happily maintaining below goal. I am only about 13 months out though and in the back of my mind I’m always worried that it will fail at some point. I don’t know much about the sleeve, but what little I do know makes me think the transition to it from a failed band seems very plausible. I am so happy with my new body that I have no intentions of EVER letting myself get fat again, even if that means revising to the sleeve. I just hope it is never necessary for me. Good luck to you BJean on whatever path you take.

There are 2 sides to this abortion issue. It amazes me that those who are all for a womans choice is not satisfied with the fact that the law sides with them on this issue. Any woman can go to their doctor and have an abortion if she chooses. Even though they know how much the opposing side abhors that decision, and they understand that the reason they oppose it is because they truly, sincerely feel that life begins when the sperm meets the egg and that to abort a baby in the womb is murdering it, they STILL want their opposers to pay for the procedure with their tax dollars. It's VERY hard to fatham and understand. Why can't pro-choice people be satisfied with the law being on their side? Must they also insist that those who believe it is murdering a baby to pay for it as well and therefore be contributing to their "choice" financially. WOW!! I think that pro choice people are very uncompassionate towards the beliefs of others when they insist that the government fund their abortions desite the opponents conscience in doing so. What has this country come to? God would be very displeased with this.

I know that the president has made a promise to not allow any funding for abortions in the HC bill that was passed yesterday, but he is a liar and can not be trusted with his promises. They are just talk to me. He talks to get his way. If ONE abortion is paid for with tax dollars someway somehow through trickery and deceitfulness, I believe the people will be in an uproar and there will be division that will be too thick to cut with a knife.

Liberals should be satisfied with the law favoring them and expect women who want abortions to pay for their own murders.

Huh? Who is asking for abortions to be paid for with tax dollars? The Hyde Amendment is still the law of the land and has been for over 30 years and it doesn't allow any tax dollars to be used for abortions.

The Stupak amendment that was passed with the original house bill and the language in the Senate bill that was just passed was very clear that nothing in this bill would allow for tax money to be paid for with tax dollars or tax subsidies.

The reason for the executive order by Pres. Obama (used often by bush, by the way) was to satisfy Stupak and his followers who felt the Senate version that they were voting on was not as restrictive with regard to abortion as he would have liked. The executive order was just added insurance.

But all of this language was really unnecessary since the Hyde Amendment prevails.

And I might add that all the pro-choice people in the house voted for this bill with the more restrictive abortion language in it.

So your post makes no sense.

That's great news rodriguez! My little girl had to be fed every 2 hours for 5 months. I was nearly at the end of my rope before she would take a bottle. About the time I thought I couldn't put one foot in front of the other, she grew and started accepting a bottle and allowing her daddy to feed her. So I sure know the bone tired exhaustion that you're probably feeling. The good part is that they grow pretty fast and things get better soon. I'm very happy that things are turning out so well with your new baby girl! Congratulations.

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
