how long is the Gastric Sleeve surgery ?

Recommended Posts

I just did my surgery on Monday, came home yesterday. Felt like they wanted me out of there quickly. I have thrown up the times since i have been home and trying to stay hydrated. Today, I finally fluffed!

I was in for 4 hours. They removed old lap band, did the VSG, and repaired a large hiatal hernia. I have 8 puncture holes if you include the one from removing my drain.

P.S. I was in recovery for nearly 5 hours before being put in my room, where my hubby could finally see me, but I was still unconscious for another 3 hours after that. The hospital wasn't busy so that wasn't the reason for the long recovery room stay.

I was told recovery room would be about 2 hours. Had surgery 9/3/15was released 9/5. Now that I've written all this down, I see I have a few questions for my doc when I go for my 2 week checkup!

Yes, I had the sleeve on 9/3. I was staged at 5:15 am(first pt of the day). IV went in about 6 am, anesthesiologist came and talked as well as his nurse. Saw the doc quickly, he'd been prepping the robotics for surgery. Surgery scheduled for 7:30. I was knocked out when they wheeled me in at 7:30. 4 hours later, I'm told, I went to recovery and the doc came out and spoke to my very nervous hubby. He was told I'd be a couple of hours in recovery and then sent to a room. This was at lunchtime, I finally made it to my room at 5 pm, my hubby was a wreck not knowing what happens to my 2 hr recovery period. And when I did show up at 5, I was still sleeping until 8pm. The hospital was not crowded, plenty of rooms were available on my floo so that wasn't the reason for my long no show. Lastly my doc gave orders for NO walking for 24 hours, I was allowed to dangle only once during that time. Next day I walked once, following day I walked twice and was finally released. I'll see the doctor on 9/21 and will very definitely question him on what happened to cause those delays as well as the 'do not walk' order. From previous surgeries I know walking speeds up recovery time. When I have answers I'll report back here.

Great! Yes, i know walking is huge. Mine was on the 31st. Maybe an hour long. I felt like they really wanted me out of the hospital. It within 24 hours. Just got home last night from being at my mom's for the week. Totally keep intouch. I am in Colorado. Keep up on your recovery.

My procedure took 3-4 hours. But I had a huge hiatal hernia. I was previously banded and that was removed this past February. Unfortunately with all the complications from that, I don't have a "banana" shaped stomach. So I'm guessing depends on what they find inside that will dictate the surgery time.

My surgery took just under 3 hours. This was with my surgeon having to work around my large & oddly placed liver & having an allergic reaction to one of the meds I was given during surgery.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
