Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

I don't bicycle. I tricycle. I have worksman PAV-3. The seat is very comfy-- its like an armchair. Its a recumbent and means you lean back and shift to a lower gear to pedal faster to get up hills. So far I'm burning calories, getting around more independently (I really don't like to drive), and having fun.

Good for you. Recumbents look very, very comfy.

But J I found a nice half Ironman right on Lake Michigan, that coincidentaly takes place during one of the weekends that my parents will be camping. Obviously that is not an option for this year (not only because it is sold out, but because I am not delusional) but in 2010 it would be doable. Thanks Mac.

So I went running yesterday, since I had not been in awhile. And I was feeling all inspired and stuff. At any rate I think the 3 weeks of P90X have made a huge difference because it was easier to run. I was going a bit faster and breathing a bit easier. And I have not been running in well over a month. Maybe even 2. So even though my weight loss is stalling the P90X is actually improving not only my strength but my cardiovascular health as well.

Let's talk 2010. My spin man trains people for tris. I want to get in on the fun this year, but they are starting just when I have surgery. Since I'll already being the biggest and the slowest I don't want to hold back the group. But next year, uh, maybe. (And I'm going to swear your name the entire time.)

Look at you runner girl. I'm so deeply impressed with you. Alison just asked about your PX90 status yesterday. I'll have to report out to her that you are stronger and faster.

w00t!

I am absolutely shocked that you are even considering it. Seriously amazed. And how awesome is that?

I think it will be good for me seeing that i stuck at 220. Also we can go to park and he can fish while i ride. So we both get the best of both worlds. Let you know how it goes.

As much as I would like to say I am ready for that, there is no way I can do that in a month lol. I think I need to get my first sprint tri out of the way first. And that is scaring me to death as it is. I am so not big on wearing tight clothes (bathing suit or whatever) in front of people. And if that is what holds me back, well that is pretty sad.

Let's look at 2010. Yeah, I hope to be walking upright by that weekend.

Now if you come down for it, I'll happily cheer you on and buy you a gatorade or something after.

Hello everyone.

Got Banded on 3/25/09 and cant wait to start biking... I bought a few bikes and will be riding them to find the one that's just right. I plan on riding daily a few miles mainly around the park, but on weekends off take a longer trek eventually leading to a fully self supported tour.

For now Im gonna take it slow till I heal up a bit, then with diet, bicycling, swimming, etc I plan to lose weight to hit my goals.

Good luck everyone on your weight loss approach, with your current diets, and hope everyone feels well.

Ben

Mini-Mac and I just got back from biking to the local park and then around the lake. We're going to make a regular thing of it.

Ok this might make you laugh

So im in California on buisness and just DIEING to cycle.

So no one will rent me a bike. its sunny 70f

This is REALLY wrong.

I bought a crappy Walmart bike. Road the CRAP out of it. about 40 miles. Then cleaned it up with clorox wipes and took it back for credit.

Am i going to bike hell?

I kept all the packing and made it look perfect.

BTW: it was a creaky piece of ####

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
