Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hi Lucky # Sevens!!,

Just got banded thursday and got home from the hospital last night. I can't take any pain med because it make me so nauseated and I am walking real slow. My whole body just aches. Please tell me this gets better soon!!:car:

Anyway other than that, I am so very happy to be a bandster and I know that in my heart that this was the right choice for me.

Oh my throat feels awful and I found out that the anisthesiologist had a hard time intubating me and had to call another doctor to try it. So my upper lip is swollen and has a sore.

Oh also, I am not hungry or thirsty and just looking at food or smelling it makes me nauseated too:confused:

I have to keep reminding myself to drink the clear fluids and eat Jello.< /p>

Take care everyone!!!

XOXO

Janiee:kiss2:

I was banded Tuesday - was suppose to come home Wed - but was a big baby with the gas pains - I stayed until Thursday. So I hurt for 2 solid days. Feel ok now port site hurts but other that that ok - I wouldn't go run a marthon - but heck i wouldn't have done that before being banded anyway ;) - I wasn't hungry while in the hospital but was when i got home. But i am lucky to have restriction and can only eat 1/2 cup of Soup at a time.

Sorry for your sore throat - I must have a very big one cuz mind didn't hurt at all. :car:

I still get gas - the gasx strips do help...

My name is Cate and I will have my surgery next Tues. the 24th. I am on day 7 of my pre op diet and have lost 10 lbs so far. I have learned a lot in the past few days reading the posts. I am so glad I found this site. I have high hopes for this band. My only concern is that they will find too much scar tissue from a previous surgery and not be able to perform the lapband. I just have to hope for the best.

I don't know if this will even show up as I have no idea what I am doing. LOL.

I put my crushed hb pressure meds in chocolate pudding - it's isn't great cuz these pills have a bad taste to them just taking them whole with Water (preband method) or you might want to try yogurt - I don't think Jello would be the best to mix them with - but again I am not a big Jello fan.

I haven't been crushing anything! I break the pills that are bigger, may not have to, but just in case. I just take one at a time! It takes me awhile, but I haven't had any problems and some of my multi Vitamins are huge capsules!!!!!:omg:

I know I've been really bad about posting this week. Now that I'm pretty much over the hump, I hope to keep up.

Indigo: I hear you, and I'm sorry that your nursing care was less than stellar. It's sad that so many nurses these days don't realize the impact that they make--either positively or negatively--on their paitenrs. Too many of the younger ones especially have never experienced difficulty themselves and lack the compassion for others that you learn through those experiences.

Janie--it does get better, however when you start feeling fewer aches and pains, the appetite begins to return as well. The good news is that it doesn't take much to satisfy that appetite anymore. Hang in there! Pamper yourself, and just remember to walk, drink, and rest

Lynette I read all about your problems with the pancakes. Thank you for sharing that. I can totally see how I would do something like that too. I just got back from buying some Papaya Enzyme thanks to you!

Sunny—Thanks for the shout-out! How’s your day? And Denise—We are cut from the same cloth when it comes to moms. I haven’t told mine yet and she lives a mile away! She is so judgmental, and will criticize me to the rest of my family, and I don’t need that. I’m sure the day will come, but for now, she can wait.

Kathy—The kitchen is looking great? What kind of counter tops are you putting in? My DH did a great job remodeling the fire place the week before I left too. It was pretty unnerving to have all that mess around, but I’m glad it’s done. I whish I had time to shop for some pottery for it when we were in Mexico. Well, maybe if I go down for a fill someday!

Your daughter is a sweetie! Got to love the messy-face-in-the-high-chair pics! We did foster care for awhile and could have adopted one of the girls we had too, but choose not to. I often wonder what happened to her? What a wonderful, unselfish thing to do!

Speaking of sweet li’l girls—Dini—what a precious munchkin you have there!! I can sure see why you are so proud of her.

I was a total Diet Coke-aholic too, but have not had any since the day before surgery. While I was gone my daughter hid or gave away all the Coke I had in the house—what a sweetie. Like many of you, I had headaches too, but my doctor said that caffeine was not a problem with the band, so I am allowing myself my usual 3 cups of coffee in the morning. I see it kinda of like smoking in that if you can’t quit completely, at least cut down. Eventually, I will start using more and more Decaf, but for now, I feel OK. I also liked the Pasta, but so far no cravings for that either.

So all in all, I’m still glad I did it!

OK, gotta run now—DH wants to show me something. . .

Indiogirl, I am sorry to hear you had such problems. But, you know, everyone's pain level is different. I am a firm believer in pain meds. My patient's love me. I must apologize for the nursing profession. Most nurses are wonderful caring people. And then you meet the ones that aren't. I think they went into nursing cause its a secure job with decent money. Not for the desire to take of patients. For those nurses, me included, it is a calling and I would never make a patient wait cause I was eating. That's why I always left the floor at meal time, so I would actually get a break.

Jainey, I sure hope it gets better soon as I am having the band on Thursday. :biggrin1:

Kathy, :whoo:Yeah on the stove :whoo:

Lindaa, My nurse said the reason for no caffeine is because caffeine can cause dehydration and a little is okay, but definitely shouldn't be too much, especially if you are having trouble getting your fluids in.

Sunny, I am sure you are a wonderful and compassionate nurse!!! You have the spirit for it! Have you ever had a patient though that tested your last nerve???? I would think so, because some people are just unbelievable!!!!

I guess, the uncaring quality can go both ways, patient or nurse/health professional! Just how I always have thought of it, now me, I am always afraid to ask for ANYTHING, because I don't want to be a PITA (pain-in-the-a**), as my husband calls it, lol!!!

I have, I have been nursing for 30 years. I have had a little of everything. My method is to treat every patient as if they were my mom or dad...how I would want them treated. hasn't failed me yet. The funny thing is, the nastier the patient, the nicer and more patient I am. I have to go overboard on niceness so I don't tell them to F***off :car:

Actually, I just remember that no one is in the hospital because they feel good. They are sick and we are just not at our best when we are sick. That patient or family member may have just found out they have something serious or maybe they just feel like crap and I am the one that catches it. I understand this. It is a part of nursing. I just try and care and pamper and hopefully make them feel a little better. I just LOVE nursing...:car:

Ahh, Sunny, you are the sweetest!!!! And yes, you are right about all that!!! You should have been MY nurse, I'm always told that I am the "perfect" patient!!! Heaven knows, I have had my share of surgeries, but not sure what the "perfect" patient is, lol!!!!!;)

My gas pain didn't really hurt at the hospital but once I got home I really felt the pain. Esp when I laid down and then got up. It was all throughout my chest and neck. Starting the day I came home (Thursday) I began riding my stationary bike. I've taken it slow and ride it twice a day 5 miles each time. In between I walk around inside the house. It's now Saturday and I still have a little pain but for the most part, it's almost gone. As long as I walk or ride the pain decreases. Just keep moving around and you'll feel better. Hang in there.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
