October Surgery Date

Recommended Posts

Being a operating room nurse I know that you want a surgeon who is OCD about everything

My surgeon, Dr Nguyen at NE GA Medical Center, seems to be that way. He will not even agree to do the surgery until you meet his expectations on the presurgery diet, your food/exercise journal and meeting attendance. After 4 months of seeing him, he agreed to do my surgery. And he said that was fairly quick.

Bypassman, I'm so sorry about your mom or dad. Rest assured a lot of us shared your fears before surgery. You are going to be okay.

Day Five- pain is a lot better - yesterday I asked the doc if I could increase my dose a little bit since a lot was coming through. Things are a lot more comfortable now and walking is much better. Slept lying down last night which was a nice change.

Finally pooped for the first time in 5-6 days, and didn't need any benefiber or moral ax assistance. Cannot express how great it is to know everything is working.

Definitely ask the hospital about drain care and bandages. Mine taught me how to empty the drain but not how to change the bandages- which became necessary last night when they got wet. I'm actually kinda pissed that they didn't change the bandages while I was at the hospital. Apparently I was supposed to get a kit with gauze and instructions but it never happened do my husband ended up doing a CVS run last night while my mom and I played M.A.S.H. in the living room.

Still not getting in all my Water buy I'm really trying. Got maybe 40oz yesterday. Today my only goals are 2 walks outside and all my Water.

Very very stressed out from the pain- ended up being a bit of a brat to my mom whose been kind enough to come stay with us and take care of me for a few days. Ended up apologizing but still feel bad.

I so feel you on the pain. It really puts a damper on my intentions to walk and get all my Protein in. If the gas would just leave I could breathe and drink more. I'm hoping to have a be soon too. 4 days is just ridiculous. Definitely worth it though, didn't gain any water weight in the hospital and down 11 lbs from morning of surgery. It gives me hope!

Everyone is doing fantastic whether working this preop circus or the post op chaos ☺️

I'm doing better today than previous days. A lot less nausea, but I can't choke down my Protein Shakes. I used to be able to tolerate them before hand. I just purchased gene pro with rush shipping (next day) because I get extreme nausea with the Protein Drinks and I can't not take them.

One note to go buy, practice how you're going to pick things up off the floor, while I'm having a lot less pain (no pain meds at all today) it still smarts to bend over. My suggestion, learn how to get up and down knees or buy a helping device to help pick up things.

I'm getting in at least 4 oz of Water but I really need to get my 64oz in. I think I will make it today. Days 9 post o0. I weighed yesterday and from that weight I'm down 6 pounds at least(I haven't weighed today.)

I'm sorry to hear about you parent Bariactricman.

I'm a nurse and have been trained on the da Vinci. It is so freaking cool!!! It is really amazing. My surgeon doesn't use it but I can see how it would be very beneficial. Ahhhh technology ;-)

Day 7 of my liquid diet which is going fine, but now I'm fighting off a cold. My surgery is the 17th and I really don't want to reschedule. It too hard to get rides scheduled and time off from work. Hopefully I will be fine by mid-week.

Anybody had a cold right before surgery?

My surgery was scheduled for Sept. 30. I got a cold and they rescheduled for the 7th. I still wasn't well enough so now I'm scheduled for the 21st. I go back to my primary doc on Monday for appended clearance. Frustrated? Yes. But, you don't want to go into any surgery with a cold. So, I'm ok with the 21st. I was really sick though.

Today is day 3 post op. Gas is still the most painful obstacle. I sleep a lot due to an allergy to narcotics; have to take Benadryl too. In hospital Popsicle's were all I wanted. I am drinking sips of Water non stop. SF pudding is my favorite thing to eat. Have been able to eat Jello, Protein Shake and peaches (baby food stage 1). But not able to eat much. Nor do I feel like it. Just wish the gas would go away. Worst part by far. Incisions are doing well. I did not even need a drain at hospital. They are bruised but healing.

Hi All, Surgery on Tuesday and home this afternoon. Everything went very well I had the worst time with chest pain , dr had me do a swollen test and esophagus was very swollen so placed me on decadron to reduce swelling so I could start drinking. It started helping after the second dose so taking Clear Liquids real slow and steady. Still in insulin the decadron messed up my blood sugars but probably for a very short time. Very glad to be home.

Sorry Joy59 that you had chest pain glad your better now. Just focus on rest Water & Protein & you'll be stronger in a few days!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
