Wow- see, it IS like being pregnant- uncomfortable, gassy, nauseas, emotional, nesting, can't bend to the floor, and some of us had to wait 9 months to get here!!

But then, the rewards; losing the double chin and the belly afterwards and being so much more energetic. Instead of gaining a baby tho, you're losing one that weighs 100lbs or more!

Thank you tacycakes. I really needed that! I am so ready to be healthier, no more CPap, more energy, less back pain. The food is scaring me a little bit. I am so worried I will screw it up somehow.

@@Jyoyonomore, have u tried a cup with a sipper top, or water bottle, I do much better with those than a plain wide mouth drinking cup.

@@smiley922 I have one Water bottle with a spout but it's connected to a straw. I love ice water so I bought a 34 oz Thermos pitcher that will keep liquid cold for 24 hrs and hot for 12 hrs so I will learn how to drink enough water from a cup

Beni, I survived a meal out with my family!!! They ate DQ, I was sitting right next to chicken strips (my favorite from there), burgers and fries. I did leave the house knowing we were going to fast food and I had some Soup beforehand and sipped my flavored Water while there.

Wow your feeling well enough to go out for a meal with your family already!

You'll do fine. We all will with each other's help. I didn't know a darned thing about the pre diet of this or the recovery until I joined this group. Everyone is so honest and informative and supportive. It's great to be "talking" with people just coming home and giving each other tips. I have learned so much already! The other thing is that other people are voicing my concerns and fears too, so I know that I'm not alone in feeling this way. I also am afraid of failing like I have with every diet bc of "screwing up", but I know that this is my big chance and I feel confident that the gym and I am going to be on good terms and I will regain the confidence I once had. My kids are all able to pretty much take care of their essential needs now, so it's time I do the same and like myself again. I am also very excited to go out and make new friends at the gym with a fitness goal in mind and not sitting around over food and wine complaining about husbands and neighborhood stuff. I am feeling so positive and blessed right now. Tomorrow might be another story with new challenges, but one day at a time, and it too shall pass!

Sorry- feel like I was on a soap box there. I'm just so glad I'm doing this for myself.

My NUT recommended no TV for the first week to 2 weeks. Too many food commercials. Tonight has been crazy every other as is about food. Iam going to watch all my Fav shows onTivo and skip thru the commercials.

I found out today that my husband will be gone the next two weeks. I hope I heal up quickly, I'm doing all the things I'm supposed to but I think I'm going to heal at my own pace. Little worried.

Bummer your husband is going to be gone for the next 2 weeks. Is there someone who is going to help you in that first week after surgery?

Auri, all the Protein Drinks I have tried make me bloated and nauseous too. I wonder if we are intolerant to whey Protein. From what I have read some WLSs are. There is soy protein out there but it may taste even worse

I never really had too much rest since I have little ones. My husband couldn't stay home for more than a couple of days so I have to take care of them during the day still. I am just a bit sore, I only took pain meds an hour ago and have been off most of it all day. I'm solely relying on the muscle relaxant right now. We have no food in the house so we had to go out and get something. I'm just a busy body I guess, lol.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
