Hello AA sleevers! Congratulations to everyone.

Monday is my last weigh in before everything gets submitted to my insurance company. I'm so excited I can't even sleep at night . Lol I'm hoping for a date around Christmas break.

I am absolutely amazed at how easy that is sounds like it has been for most people so far in their pre-op periods.

I am in Silver Spring, MD and my surgeon is at the Shady Grove Adventist Hospital which is the only Center For Excellence in my area. My insurance required me to do 6 months of physician visits, so I see my actual surgeon every month. I was put on a restricted diet from the very first visit that I had with her. I am only allowed to have 1 Protein Shake, 70 grams of Protein, 30-50 grams of carbs, and 20-30 grams of fat per day. No bread, rice, Pasta, potatoes, Cereal or fruit. I also have to take a Multi-Vitamin twice per day.

I have lost a little over 15 lbs. just in my first 3 1/2 months of doctor visits. Did anyone else have to do 6 months of dieting before even starting the pre-op liquid diet? Preparing for this surgery has been the motivating factor to my weight loss thus far, but I've talked to a few people who have already been sleeved, and they think my pre-op requirements are a bit excessive.

I'm having my surgery December 17th in Tijuana. I'm definitely counting down the days!

@GreenEyes604 I had to do 6 months of weight management classes but not dieting. We were encouraged to change our eating habits but nothing as restrictive as yours. Congrats on the weight loss, how much longer do you have?

@@lynette85 I'm praying for a January date. Have a few more months to go and I'm starting to get worried about keeping up this diet. It's really tough.

Hey everyone! I am hoping to be sleeved in December. I am still jumping through hoops but I feel that things are going to work out well for me and I will be sleeved soon. This time next year I will be at ideal weight. I am doing everything I can to make this successful for me.

@ You have a very positive attitude and that alone is half the battle. Everything will go just as God has planned for you, and like you said, this time next year you'll be slim and trim!

Hello Ladies. I was sleeved on 10/6. The last couple of days have been a bit challenging, but I'm making it through. I feel bloated, tired, restless and I'm OVER Protein Shakes LOL! I'm so happy to see the folks are using gasX. I'm about to add my name to that list. Otherwise, things have been good. I think I drink a bit too fast - I need to learn to sip. I'm amazed every day when I get on the scale and it is steadily going down. I haven't been able to wear my wedding band in a couple of years. I even outgrew the band I bought to wear after that. I was happy to find that I was able to wear that one on Saturday. I'll be especially happy to be back in my wedding ring & band!

Gigi - it sounds like we'll be criss-crossing on the road. I'm in Richmond and I'll be heading to Greensboro Oct 25 for NCA&T's Homecoming while you're heading to Norfolk. My folks are a stone's throw from Norfolk...small world.

Wishing the best to all of you on your journey! I look forward to chatting with you!!

GreenEyes604 your diet sounds over the top. It almost sounds like the 2 week pre-op diet I had to do. I will certainly pray for strength for you to get to the end of your 6 months and secure a January date. My insurance had a year long program so I opted to find alternate financing. Hang in there! It will be worth it!!

I had to do 9 months of visitation with my primary only for them to advise me about losing weight. They suggested that I see a dietician and at first I declined. I changed my mind because I realized that everything is being documented and I wanted my documentation s to look good for the insurance. It was a long journey for me but worth it.

@@simplicity27 I had my surgery on Oct 6 as well. It's comforting to know that I'm not alone. I'm tired, bloated, gassy, nauseated, and WELL OVER Protein Shakes. I was starting to feel tired just doing simple tasks so I figured this was the result of a lack of Protein. I've been trying my best to go hard on the protein shakes for the past two days. But as of this afternoon I literally felt as though I was going to throw it up. So I gave up and I've just been drinking Water and Gatorade. Do you feel painfully gassy and nauseous first thing in the morning? I've been experiencing this when I wake up in the morning. I've been so tempted to move myself to the puréed stage. I'm craving tuna with light mayo, Lol! I'm also craving apple sauce, cheese, and a turkey meatball! Lol...Jesus help me!! This is hard. However, surprisingly enough the weight is really falling off. I'm already down 19 pounds from the day of surgery which was only a week and two days ago. When I look in the mirror I see a completely different person. My face is changing and I'm developing a collarbone... wow! This ought to be interesting.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
