THE LIQUID DIET COMPLAINING/SUPPORT LOUNGE

Recommended Posts

First day of Week Two.

I'm drinking GNC Lean shakes (Swiss Chocolate). They're not bad.

Also chicken broth with Thai peanut dipping sauce (1 tsp) -- umm umm good!

Only bad day I had was Day Two -- headache and flu'ish feelings.

Otherwise, it's been pretty easy (knock on wood).

Drink lots of water!! And be prepared for the headache!

I couldn't agree more! I've been on mine for a week and have several headaches but can't take Ibuprophin (Motrin) since my surgery's in a week. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) doesn't do anything for me so I just try to grin and bare it. I can have a diet meal like a smart one or lean cuisine at night for dinner though thank God!

Day 5 was horrible for me too and day 6 was awful as we'll but I'm on day 10 now and it's not too bad. I only got through days 5-6 by staying busy and away from food. Even if that meant my family too.

Also! And so very important... Run out and get some Benefiber or Citrucil to get some Fiber in your belly because the Constipation, if you haven't experienced it yet, is HORRENDOUS if you're drinking a bunch of Protein.

So on Tuesday I started my C-PAP (that C stands for claustrophobia), my liquid diet, and my period, all at once. I am one seriously lucky gal! LOL

The diet is Bariatric Advantage, and I have six "meals" a day--4 shakes, a Soup, and a bar. The Soup was so bad--I'm telling you, I'd rather starve than drink that. So I subbed in some powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken soup and that was ok. I'll definitely be ordering more of that one. I don't like sweet stuff, but I'm getting through. It really does fill me up and I'm not hungry. A couple of times I've missed my last "meal" of the day because I'm not hungry and don't remember it. The hardest part is cooking meals for my family. Everything smells so good. I keep saying "Not for me. It's not for me," and I'm doing my best to not even lick my fingers lest I get sucked into taking a bite.

Just 10 more days to go!

Help. Day 5. I don't eat dairy products so I'm limited to Jello applesauce and chicken broth. My Protein is gritty in everything I mix it into and starts to separate pretty quickly. I'm so hungry. I have two kids and watching them eat is terrible. My husband is waiting on approval for his sleeve and hasn't started his diet yet. But he is eating normally and cracking jokes and taking about food. I'm so hungry it hurts. I know it's worth it. I know it'll be better after surgeey. But I have 10 days left. Help me. What else can I eat?

It is hard. I'm on day five and had to endure sitting in a car for 20 mins with the smell of checkers. I do gel yogurt. I added Sugar Free Chocolate Syrup and sugar free chocolate pudding. It was actually doable. You could add ranch seasoning to greek yogurt for the salty taste. Add jello powder to vanilla Protein Powder. So you can have like a key lime pie shake or orange Creamsicle shake, or even a blue raspberry and vanilla shake. The possibilities are endless. Also creamed Soups with no chunks work. Minestrone, minus the veggies, works. I hope that helps.

I'm heading to bed at the end of day 6. It's not too bad, but the weekend is the hardest. No work to distract me.

A lot of people posting about poop or lack thereof. The dietician said it can cause Constipation or explosive diarrhea.

I just really want some solid food!!! Had to go to grocery store tonight. That was torture, but kept willpower in check.

I've lost 10 lbs so far but have been at standstill for two days. I wouldn't mind losing 5 more before surgery on the 27th.

My surgery is the 21 I have been at standstill for 5 days ):. The hardest is cooking for everyone but I'm thinking it will get better.

I just went onto the forum for help with the pre-op and realized that this is the topic for me! I am on Day 2 of a 16 day pre-op diet. I'm supposed to only do 14 days but have gained weight due to vacations this summer and decided to start yesterday. I am supposed to have 2 shakes a day plus a non-carb dinner. I had 1 and 1/2 shakes yesterday (plus steak and veggies for dinner) and felt mildly nauseous the whole day. Today I woke up and can NOT even think about having a shake - and I'm not hungry either, just nauseous and have a headache. I am going to try the iced coffee with chocolate Protein powder when I get my courage up -that sounded good, thanks for posting it! Also have Fuzzy Naval which I can try but yesterday I had the Syntrax lemonade and that was the one I couldn't finish. If I find anything that works okay I'll post! Good Luck everyone, we can do this :)

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
