If i only know getting sleeve was so painfull

Recommended Posts

Everyone is different. I had almost no pain at all after surgery and immediately stopped using the medications given to me. But just because I had a really easy time of it does not make my experience typical, nor does your experience with pain make you atypical. Call your doctor and let him or her know that you are still in a world of pain. Even if I had been in a lot of pain, I'd rather have a bit of pain than continued to have diabetes and high blood pressure. Think long term goals, not short term setbacks.

My bottle of liquid Vicodin was my best friend for the first 12 days. Everyday I felt like I'd been hit by a bus. I also had buyers remorse, And to top it off, my hunger came back full force on day 10 - so I was in pain and starving.

Everytime I'd come to this site, I'd see people with the same surgery date as mine all saying they just got done running a marathon (obviously not literally, but it felt the same). Didn't see many people in the same boat. Now I read this post and see how many people there were. Wish I had known I wasn't the only one. I felt like I was being a big baby and no one wanted to hear me complain.

So, yes, others have been where u r now. I promise, u will wake up feeling better soon. And u won't regret ur decision. And in a few months, ull forget all about the pain and will be sporting a new size! Good luck to u!

Take the pain Meds. Then move as much as you can, it really does help. I also had my surgery on a May 29, but I feel pretty good except when I try to turn over. Make sure you tell your Dr how you are feeling. Hang in

Please, please, please take your pain medication if you need it! Pain is much easier to manage if you take the medication regularly and keep the pain at a fairly stable low level. If you wait to take the pain meds until the pain is to the point you can't stand it, and keep repeating that process your pain control will be less effective. Why torture yourself if you don't have to? Nobody gets an award for suffering through all of that pain and taking minimal pain medication. Nobody will know but you if you needed the medication and how much you needed.

I hope your recovery gets better and you will see the upside to the surgery soon!

Um take the pain meds? They don't prescribe them to you for just in case. You just had major surgery and if your not comfortable and the pain is not being managed then you won't heal right! Take the meds!

This thread is helpful- I am 4 days post-op and really need my pain meds every 4-5 hours. I had my gallbladder removed in addition to the sleeve so maybe that's contributing to more pain? I am tolerating liquids well- I am just so sore! I don't think it is gas pain. I have six incisions.

I remember being in your shoes. I found this thread helpful as well. I had only heard of folks feeling wonderful and I knew that I couldn't be the only one. :) I was sore for a good 7 - 8 days. Getting up from bed or sitting up was the worst.

first congrats. I'm 2 weeks out and still sore from one of my incisions (this is where they had to dig out my port from the lapband.) I am not taking pain meds during the day as I went back to work this week but have at night to help out so i can get some rest.

Thank you all for this thread. I'm about to get my surgery date and despite all of my research I've never seen this kind of honesty about the pain. It scares me but I need to see it so I can try and be emotionally prepared. I've never had any kind of surgery before so there is just no way to imagine what it might be like.

You will not know what it is like till you have it!

Try not to be scared....I had NO PAIN, i was a lil sore every morning when I woke up and I did not take any pain meds once I got home!! I was nervous and scared too because I did not know what to expect but it was a breeze for me!!

My first 2 days were in the hospital.hooked up to iv and hated having to get up out of bed to pee.it hurt and I could hardly hold.it just to even walk a few feet.I think I even cried out of frustration..but as I got home,my.pain was tolerable but I kept telling myself its gonna better every day post surgery.I was weak for a few days, and I had one incesion that hurt more than the rest.My doctor was kind enough to give me not only 2 weeks off post off,but fot it extended 2 more weeks.I was mentally and physically readt for work at that point.so you see everyone is different.but I tell you this..its all worth it..it has changed my.life and iam thankful for it!Best wishes to you on your journey!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
