Hi! Super excited!! I had my band placed in 2003 and was extremely successful until it revolted on me and slipped in 2011. Now I am back up to 170 and the scale keeps rising! I decided to get a gastric sleeve....still apprehensive but I can't gone on like this. My surgery date is June 27. Eeek! So close!! I would love some advice from those of you who have experienced the same. Is the restriction much like the band? How successful is the sleeve compared to the band? Did you have any problems with scar tissue on your stomach that complicated surgery?

Hi there - I can't answer any of your questions, but I just wanted to say hi - I have a similar history - band in 2008, slip in 2009. gained back all 70 pounds I lost since then. My sleeve revision date is the 16th - major eeek! I'm excited but starting to freak out a little too. I can't wait to get to the 17th and have the surgery in my rear view mirror...

Hi all. Had a band In 2006 but began the "too tight/reflux" problems in 2008/09. Pre-band I was at 248 and dropped 60 lbs, but with the probs regained about 30. Now, I'm just past my 1yr. mark w/ my revision to a sleeve. I'm down to 155 and in a size I've never seen in my life! I set a lot of mini goals over the year, with my main goal being to hit 70% loss of weight in my first year. (The Dr. said the expectation was this to happen in 2 yrs.). I DID IT!

Now, I'm still pushing on to my next goal, but after my 1yr. check up, my Dr. said my blood work is great and I was doing fantastic with things. Here's the key....EMBRACE THE CHANGE! I took the eating and exercising seriously. Don't get me wrong, I hate any and all forms of exercise (PE was NOT a fav in school) but it is a job I must do to maintain my change. Clearing the house of junk and making sure my body is taking in what it needed and not always what it wants helps the process. OH, and the biggest thing (for me anyway) is learning to recognize the head games my brain will play about wanting food. In the last year I have really tried to focus on learning what is hunger and what isn't, and how to compensate with new things instead of old habits.

A phrase I've adopted is "It's a marathon, not a sprint." As long as I work the plan and stay focused (recording what I eat, exercise 3-4x a wk for 30-60 mins., make healthy choices) my Dr. says I'll stay on a successful path. So, best of luck on your journey!

I love to see y'all's success with the revision. Gives me hope. Especially after spending oodles of time trying to get dressed this morning. I can't tell you how frustrating it is to go into a closet where nothing fits!!! What does fit looks like crap. I absolutely hate my body. Pure unadulterated hate. And I hate feeling that way. :0(

I was banded in 2010 and just made 1 year out of being revised to the sleeve in May. Best thing I ever done! The sleeve is everything the band was suppose to be and more. I no loner vomit, slime, acid reflux etc. I eat about 5/6 times per day in small amounts. I did have to have my gall bladder removed back in November due the rapid weight lost! That was a surgery I was more than willing to have. Lol

My band didn't slip but it was on its way with vomiting multiple times per day. So I went to slider foods and gain 25lbs. Below are my stats from band to sleeve to current. I would like to lose 5-10 more lbs but if I don't lose another ounce I will be ok with that too.

Band stats

Hw 218

SW 200

Lw 160

Sleeve stats

Sw 185

Cw/Gw 130

So sorry that you are feeling that way because I know the same feeling. I'm going through the same thing. I can't fit anything. I gave away a ilot of clothes last year because I didn't feel that I needed them , I gave away some 18 'a and 20's because I was doing great, and then my band started malfunctioning, and I started taking in slider foods. I gained 40 lbs so fast. I can't believe it myself. I stay on this site because it's do inspiring, I know my surgery is in July, I just don't have a date yet. My bariatric center submitted my paperwork first to have the lapband removed and a separate order to get the sleeve, but it will be performed at the same time. Good luck to you, when are you getting revised?

I'm considering revision surgery from band to sleeve. I just haven't had much success and I've been banded for 4 years. I initially lost 40lbs but I've gained back 20 and haven't really changed eating habits. I'll be 45 this month. I have some problems with my foot and knee and back that have been preventing me from working out as much as I used to. I can't really do the treadmill anymore, but I use the eliptical and bike 3-4 days per week.

Anyway. I'm just really frustrated. I've not had any issues with the band like slippage or reflux, etc. So I'm not sure if revision is going to be the way to go. But I don't know what else to do. I've been playing with the same 5-10 pounds for a year now almost. I stick to 1200 calories a day and that is not helping me lose weight. I eat less and that doesn't work. I eat more and I lose a few but then the next week I gain it back. It seems like no matter what I do nothing works. I go back to the doctor on June 11 so I guess I'll ask about it. It makes me nervous too because my friend who got the sleeve was in and out of the hospital multiple times with a leak and had a feeding tube for about a year and couldn't eat anything. Then again, she had other health problems as well before the surgery (lupus, fibro).

I guess we will see..

Banded in March 2001 at 272; lost 30# in the first month on an all liquid diet and took another 11 months to lose another almost 40# and got down to about 205.

All time highest weight was in 2005 - highest recorded was 332

Band removed in Sept 2011; sleeved December 2011 at 308.

Hit goal of 158 in February 2013

Current weight around 140-142.

That is a loss of over 160# - about 190 from my lifetime high. unbelievable, even to me!!!!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
