Hello

Today I start my liquid diet. I would like to know how everyone got through this 2 weeks. It seems easy, however I know i know it's not. I do understand the necessity of this phase and know it's just that, but I would like to hear some experiences. Please share and keep the motivation moving forward!

Hello

Congrats on getting closer to your surgery day. I think the liquid diet before was one of the hardest things I have done. It's so hard because everyone around you is eating and all you can have is yucky Protein Shakes. Lol but I can say around day 5 for me was when things got so much easier. The two weeks really flew by. Before I knew it, it was surgery day. Get as much Protein in as you can now because after surgery will be a challenge. I am a month post op and I'm still trying to get all my protein in.

Do you have to do a two week liquid diet for vertical sleeve? I'm just at the very beginning stages of my journey. Ugh, I don't even know how I would do that, LOL!! Good luck to you!

Yes most of the time for the sleeve there is a two week pre liquid diet. Although it varies with different surgeons. MIne only requires one week liquid diet. Everyone has their own way of doing things but I'd say most require 1-2 weeks of a pre liquid diet. I start mine next Monday. I'm sure it is going to suck but I know it'll be worth it! :)

I start my 2 week liquid diet on Monday , and I'm kinda ready for it, I've been eating a lot of crap - I guess because I know that I won't be very soon. I actually did the Protein liquid diet today, just to try it, and it was fine. Two weeks is a long time, but like I said I'm ready for it, and that only means D-day is that much closer !!!

I was so excited to start this whole thing that I actually started my 2 week preop diet two days early. (Excited and fearful that I wouldn't lose the 12 pounds I was supposed to). I had purchased a bunch of different RTD shakes and Protein powders, PB2 and unjury cheese Protein powder. I also added Mio and Dasani Water flavor drops to my shakes for even more variety. I bought several broth Soups and unflavored Protein Powder to add to them. Basically, variety helped the two weeks fly by. I made it a challenge to see what yummy thing I could make each day.

Physically, I had wicked headaches the first 3 days and I was hungry the whole time. But I knew it was all for a good cause and I was so mentally and emotionally prepared and committed, that cheating never crossed my mind. Until day 14. This was 2 days before my surgery and I had a little nervous breakdown thinking WTF was I doing?! I cried in my car sitting in the grocery store parking lot. But it passed and I went on with my day without cheating.

Yes, It mostly sucked, but it also gave me a sense of empowerment because I kicked my preop diet's ass. And I lost 22 pounds in that 16 days so it was more than worth it.

I have to do the 2 week Protein liquid diet. I'm fortunate because I was seeing a dietician a few months back who prescribed appetite suppressants. I have some left so I asked my surgeon if it was ok to take them during the 2 week liquid diet and he said that would be fine. Now all I have to do is wait until the two weeks to see if these pills will work with no solid food. Good luck on the Liquid Protein diet. I'm sure you won't be alone.

I am on day two of my pre-op liquid diet. I am using EAS Advantage Protein shakes. They taste pretty good and each shake has 17 grams of Protein, 2 grams of carbs and only 100 calories. I am allowed 800 calories a day so I at least have the 8 shakes to ration throughout the day. I woke with a headache today, but I think that is a combination of no caffeine and hunger. I really cannot wait until surgery day. Wish me Luck!

I start my liquid diet tomorrow, mine is for 10 days. I found two drinks that I love, Oh Yeah! It has 32 g of Protein and muscle milk pro series has 40g. My dr also said I can eat plain chicken breasts and turkey. It no fruits or veggies. I think I will start the liquid only and only eat the food if absolutely necessary

Today I begin my 2 week liquid diet. And I'm kind of sad, because of obvious reasons, my love of food, and today being Memorial Day, yet another holiday which gives me an excuse to eat a lot of crap. But in the past month ,since I've known that I'm having thus surgery, I have pigged out on everything to the point that I put on 8 more pounds! So, today, I'm embracing my new lease on life, and I hope these two weeks go fast, and I hope I can get through with no cheats! Good luck all you pre op liquid dieters!!

I didn't find the 2-week liquid diet terribly difficult. I did have a headache for the first few days, and I was a little shaky at times (I was still walking 10k steps daily, but had many fewer calories to support it, so it took my body a few days to adjust to it). My family ate normally around me, and half the time I make their meals. It didn't bother me...mostly because I focused on the end goal rather than thinking about what I was missing.

Prior to the diet, all junk food and snack food (barring pudding...I was allowed SF pudding, and I kept some regular on hand for the kids) was removed from the house. I think it would have been a lot more difficult without that step.

I'm on the preop diet right now. I am allowed 2 shakes and 1 meal of 3-4 ounces of lean Protein and 1 cup non starchy veggies.

I really haven't been physically hungry, which I've been really suprised about. I have had a few bouts of head hunger/cravings. I've been wanting pizza soooo bad! (My weakness)

I've been able to control myself though thankfully.

Not all surgeons require the liquid diet. Mine didn't at all and he has done over 1800 sleeves. Just Atkins style for a week low carb. And I get a last supper the night before surgery including alcohol. I feel very blessed!

Heard of a lot of people doing this diet, my Dr and Nut have been very strict but they were not that Much! I was on 14 day 800 calorie I learned to eat as I would pre op and was still hungry but not starving to death, they only had me stop eating and drinking completely at 12 midnight before surgery! But good luck your almost there :)

With my liquid diet it is only a week but I am able to eat unlimited amounts of raw or steamed vegetables. I can have limited amounts of plain nonfat yogurt, unsweetened applesauce, v8 juice, and low fat milk. 3-4 Protein Shakes a day and as much broth, Jello, and popsicles I want. Has anyone else had a pre op like this? I'm on day 2 and so far it's not too bad. Certainly not pleasant but tolerable. My surgery is June 2nd!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
