Hi everyone! I am 55 years old and 5'5" and weight is 257. I'm in Virginia. The only major thing I have left to do is the endoscopy w/ bravo. I have pre paid for my surgery and I now find out that the bariatric surgery program surgery program at my hospital is on hold because the PA is leaving. I don't know how long it will be before I get a date now. My endoscopy is on the 20th of June and my surgeon said we will talk surgery dates after that. I'm frustrated because nobody would give me an idea of how long it would take to get a date. I'm so happy for all of you that have their dates and wish you all the best!'

My surgery date is July 1. I've been at this for 18 months, battling with insurance, changing insurance, allergy doctor & preparation. It's still unreal that this is happening to me. I'll be 56 on July 2. What a birthday present to myself. I am 5'3", 239 lbs.

Hey there! I am 53 years old, 5'4, and 226 pounds. I started this journey on September 11, 2013. Insurance required 6 months of supervised dieting, 5 years of documented weights, a psych evaluation, and a recommendation for surgery by two physicians. I completed the hoop jumping in April and turned in all information. It had been over 6 months since I had met with the surgeon, so insurance required another consult. I saw the surgeon on May 16th and all paper work was sent to the insurance that day. Received approval from insurance on May 23rd. Just had my pre-op testing done on June 10th, nutritional class is on June 24th, and surgery is on July 7th. Wow! I sometimes feel that the purpose of all of the hoop jumping is to show that you have the dedication to stick with this journey. I am nervous of course, but excited to think about the possibility of losing this weight. I hope to find some more July sleevers to share experiences with!

Well my appt was great! The only drawback was I have H. Pylori in my upper GI so fun stuff. On anti-biotics for 2 weeks (they make me feel like vomiting) then an endoscopy to make sure it is all murdered and gone, then finally I should be able to get my surg date on July 9th. My surg and his entire staff were wonderful! I have a take home machine that is a precursor test for sleep apnea, it will determine if I actually need to go in for a sleep study or not, I'm really hoping not, I woke up a lot last night to go potty and I started to worry that that wouldn't look good, but then I realize that it is just testing whether or not i'm breathing. I'm a bit of a worrier, but at the same time I can talk myself down! Where is everyone else at in this process? Any other H. Pylori sufferers out there?

When I got my labs back, I also had H. Pylori. I had to take 2 different antibiotics for 2 weeks. I didn't have any problems with the pills at all. Thank goodness!! The drs. Haven't said any more to me about it. From what I read, it's pretty rare for the antibiotics to not work. My surgery date is July 14th. I see my surgeon on July 1st so I will ask him about it then.Good luck on taking the meds.

I just receive my lab work back and testes positive for h. Pylori. Will I have to have an endoscopy now?I was initially told I didn't need one because I have never had problems

Hmm, from what I have read some Surg's don't do an endo. Some take H. Pylori more seriously than others. Some of them will just do a breath test, others will just do the anti biotics and go with it, mine requires me to do an endoscopy. I completed my antio-biotics last week. I have my pre-endo on the 18th, and then the endo on the 26th, then on July 9th i'll find out if I can submit my papers to the insurance and get my date.

I also came back positive for h pylori...starting my two week rounds of meds this Friday...hoping to nip it!!

When I first started my antiobiotics I had so much nausea for 2 to 4 hours after each pill for the first day and a half, then I was fine. Took the body some time to get used to the pills. I like to think it was the death of the little beasties that was making me feel sick. They are being punished for causing me to push back my surgery a month. :)

Oh I just remembered, I also had two absolutely terrible side effects of the Clarithromycin, my mouth constantly tasted gross and I got my first ever yeast infection (TMI, I know but I like to be overly honest at times). If you get Clarithromycin (though from what i'm told it can happen with any antiobiotic because they are killing bacteria, good and bad) try and offset it by eating a lot of yogurt with acidiphillus and chew lots of gum or suck on hard candy/mints. The two weeks go by quickly.

I was originally scheduled to have my surgery on June 16, but unfortunately it just got changed to July 3. I was already more than halfway through the two-week liquid diet so I'm beyond disappointed. Now I'm supposed to go back to eating food for two weeks (although not too much of course) and then resume the liquid diet for at least a week before surgery. Much harder than just getting it over with!

I'm 5'3 and -- at the moment, ie post-liquid diet -- about 270 lbs. Age 50, married, mom of a 10 year old, in case there are others similarly situated.

So sorry juliarg. That really is so disappointing but you have to think everything happens for a reason. I canceled my first surgery for April 21st. I came to my senses and reschedule July 9th. What was the doctors reason for the change?

You're joining a great group here!!!

I'm 5'4, 215lbs, 46 yrs old, single mom of an 18 yr old. My surgery is scheduled on July 3rd. My surgeon is out of the country so one of his partner did my pre op visit on June 3rd and he did not give me any information. I asked 2 questions which he answered but he didn't offer anything else. I don't not feel prepared at all.

Well, I finally had my visit with the surgeon after what seems like 10 long months. My tentative surgery date is August 13th, unless there is a cancellation then it will be sooner. I am mentally ready to go..

Hi skylarkx! I'm in Virginia too, in Fredericksburg, having my surgery in Richmond. Where are you in Va, and who is your surgeon?

Welcome Kentuckygirl! I'm July 9 th too. I think the reason we all got to this place is bc we didn't allow "me" time. I've neglected myself for 8 yrs and gained 150 pounds in the process! I am so excited for all of us and the journey we will be on together!!

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
