I have to do a diabetic exchange system diet. It makes no sense to me- I'm supposed to have 5 fats!!!I've been avoiding fats for so long that I don't eat them. But I only get 6 servings of Protein and 5 servings of breads. Couldn't I exchange some of the stupid fats for a protein or carb? And 3 fruits and 3 veggies. I don't ever eat that many veggies. And do you know what happens if I have 4 servings of fruits/veggies? lets just say I am in the bathroom alot! I know I am lucky I don't have to do the 2 weeks liquids but a part of me wonders if it would just be easier than weeks of this program. I can't have my appointment with the surgeon until I am close to loosing all the pre-op weight! The first month I did the stupid thing I lost only 1.5 pounds. Part of it was I was so hungry that I would just loose it and then over eat.

Its hard but I guess its good practice because this will be sorta what life after the band will be like!

NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS BEING THIN FEELS- I KEEP TELLING MYSELF THAT!!!!

I had to do a high protien low carb for 5 weeks. Then switched to Clear Liquid's with 90 grams of protien 10 days prior to surgery. Yesterday I ate and I get banded in 3 days oops (I feel bad but, can't change yesterday) So, Today I'm back on it. My Dr. also put me on supplements. And after surgery Clear Liquids for a week. Good Luck

Hey all

Well I am now on Day 4 of the Optifast and am still feeling like total crap. I just cant' shake this nausea. I feel like going and buying a loaf of bread and eating the whole damn thing.

Does anyone know if eating an egg would upset the optifast diet? It's basically pure Protein so shouldn't put me out of ketosis - was thinking that might help me to feel fuller without spoiling the diet completely.

And thanks to everyone else who's posted saying they're on their pre-op diets too - it's good to know there are others out there going through the same thing!

I am on day 5 of Optifast and I feel like crap too. I have stuck to it pretty well (except for a few cherries). I didn't know the optifast diet had anything to do with putting you in ketosis? I haven't heard or read anything about that, I thought it was all about low cal/kj input. Anyway whatever it sucks!!

Hey Marga.

It's my understanding that the carb content in the Optifast program is low enough to make you go into Ketosis, and that is the main process for reducing the size of the liver to make the surgery safer.

Whatever the case may be, it SUCKS! But I guess I should try to get out of this negative frame of mind because it becomes all-consuming.

The pre-op diet was hard for me, and I had to do three times, The first time my surgery was canceled because they ran out of beds at the hospital, after only having liquids all day, they called about 5pm. to tell the surgery had to be re-scheduled. Then the 2nd time, I actually made it to the operating room, except they had hard time inabutating me (the breathing tube down the throat) So I had to re-schedule again. 3rd times a charm. They had trouble with the tube again, but this time I finally went through the whole procedure. I'm not a big fan of the pre-op diet.

, no sugars, caffine, no baby fods, sip fluids only and no straws for that forms gas

Hi everyone,my hubby just had his pre-op appt. with the surgeon and he was told to go on full liquid starting now, his surgery is July 11th. One of the reasons, and I never thought of it is, that when you go on liquid not only are you shrinking your liver, which is good, but you are also shrinking your stomach, which then enables you to get a smaller band to start, less risk of slippage, and also a head start on the weight loss. That way I would think you would get more restriction right from the start.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
