I'm finally having to consider buying ALL new clothes. I have worn my undergarments until they're just about laughable and I have been wearing 2 pair of elastic waist black slacks for work now for months. This past week it became very clear that the legs and back end are now past the point of being just a little baggy. I got into a pair of capris I bought back in the summer that were too small then. My jeans are beginning to look like they're falling off . lol I am a pitiful sight!!

The best part is, I've been taking quite a few hot baths lately because I get so cold I need to thaw out. The other day I slipped into the tub and was looking down at my legs and I swear they looked like they belonged to someone else. Those were NOT my legs!! They're not skinny by any means, but they're very obviously much smaller!:D

Leatha that is great! I can't wait till I get to that point. I have pretty well emptied my closet out, but thank goodness Becky sent me some things of hers!

You have done so well, you deserve a new wardrobe! Just remember to take some pictures and model that stuff for us! :D

Way to go, Leatha! You can probably wear petite sizes now. I love your story about the mysterious legs in the tub. I'm wearing the same three pairs of pants throughout the winter, so I guess I can brag that my wardrobe (not to mention my body) is 50% bigger than yours. They're going to have to see me through the season, then it's on to 1980s revival wear for spring. Are shoulder pads coming back in style?

Yes, Zoe!! Haven't you heard there's a "Dallas" remake? You're just ahead of the times.

OK, I just got a huge NSV and I had to tell y'all about it. I participated in an optional health assessment at work today. My weight was 217 (but I'm not going to count it because the scale was probably off) -- but never mind that, my blood pressure was 136/84! That's almost normal, and by my standards it's effing incredible. Last August it was 170/105.

Enough rejoicing. I gotta get back to work, because if I get thrown off the computer while posting this note my pressure will go sky high!

Zoe - Isn't it great! Yesterday I went to the doctor and my BP was 117/72! Six months ago it was 165/94! We must be doing something right! They even took me off some of my BP meds when I had the surgery!

O.K., this is a silly NSV, but my DH and I were in Walmart (where else?) getting dog food. We couldn't reach some on the top shelf. So I climbed in the bottom shelf far enough to push them forward enough to reach. I was laughing and said I couldn't have done that 56 pounds ago. Right there in the middle of Aisle 18, my DH just smiled and gave me the biggest old hug. Have I told you I love this guy!

Speaking of wedding rings. I remember the day of surgery I could not get my rings off. They told me I could not have jewelry on the day of surgery. I was so depressed because I didn't think they would be able to perform the surgery. They had to put a piece of tape over it. Now, it slides around all the time. I guess that is a NSV. Rebeccalee, that is a good story. It is amazing what you can see once it is gone (belly flab) :)

Hey Ladies, it's been a while since I thought about posting NSVs and Boy O Boy...The NSVs have been stacking up! :D

These are a few of my favorite NSVs:

*Self Esteem I respect myself now and know I am valuable, esp. for frienship. When I was at my heaviest I thought I was unworthy of love. That I was did'nt deserve to be the first in anything. For example: when entering a room I would let everyone else go first then I would slink in and pray there was a seat I could squeez into. ;)

* Self Confidence Now when I walk in a room I can look others in the eye, I no longer avoid eye contact. I feel good about myself and believe in myself more now than ever before. :bandit

*Roll Model ...I'm finding several over weight females looking, asking questions, and showing an intrest in taking the steps to a healthier way of life. Too bad my Doc. dos'nt offer bonuses for referals cause I'de be rollin in the $$ if he did! :guess

*New Friends and Family ...I now have a whole new family with my fellow lap banders. And the list keeps growin and growin *hugs*

Oh and Leatha, I've reached the "pentacle" :laugh

*Wolf Whistles ...hee hee (need I essplain this one?)

I was issued 6 new uniform skirts back in November. They sent the wrong size by mistake (way too small). I was too ashamed of my weight to ask my supervisor to get larger ones for me so I kept them, knowing I was going to get the band soon. I tried it on yesterday (almost 3 monthes post-op) and they fit perfectly. I don't know how much weight I've lost but it's quite a bit. (YYEEESSSSS!!!!!!)

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
