Things I won't miss...

Recommended Posts

I have to say this is one of the best threads I've come across, we all have never met, different countries or States and yet we all share this intimate bond and we are all going to conquer this awful burden that has 'weighted' us down for too long, and now look at us, already starting to conquer it! I'm so happy and proud of all of us here, I'm proud and thankful to you all for the support, through your words and your strength you show here! xoxo!

Thanks everyone for the incredibly detailed list of "things I won't miss..." Only those who have been there understand what it's like. My surgery date is May 16 and I CAN'T WAIT TO LIVE LIKE A NORMAL PERSON!!! I want to dress in beautiful, feminine clothes, that don't have an X in the size! I want to shop in the regular size sections of the department stores, and not ask where the "plus size" clothes are. It will be nice to shop for things that actually look good on me, instead of buying things that are the lesser of the evils. When a person is a smoker, the doctors label all health issues on the fact that they smoke. When a person is obese, the doctors label all health issues on the fact that they are overweight. I am so anxious to not be labeled as either. (quit smoking 10 years ago). These things, in addition to the same things other people listed above, are what keeps me focused on having the sleeve surgery. I can't imagine how wonderful life is about to become!!! I don't want special....I just want normal!

I know what you mean about doctors! I am going to be so happy when I can just have a medical issue and my weight isn't the first thing they go to.

I LOVE this thread. there are SO many things that describe my current issues and it's good to know others are right there with me...

I'm a nurse and one thing I WON'T miss is my patients asking me "When are you due"?...yes. seriously.

I get asked this at least three times a week. I have PCOS and carry ALL my weight in the front and frankly, it looks terrible and makes me so incredibly short of breath and such. but really?

I see my patients on a scheduled basis so i'm excited for the first one to mention my weight LOSS, not my weight!!!!!

I'm the same weigh! After giving birth to my son in 2006 my stomach never stopped looking pregnant!!! I'm so excited to not look 5 months pregnant anymore. I'm a PCOS lady too, I know your struggle! ;)

Had to add a few to the list:

I won't miss having others assume I am dumb because I'm fat.

I won't miss trying to make myself small so they don't notice how big I am.

I won't miss hating myself all the time and blaming all things on weight when I know it's not true.

I won't miss feeling invisible.

This was hard to write but I'm glad I did...

Hahaha!! I just noticed I spelled "weigh" instead of "way" lol. Guess weight was on my brain!

I totally get it. I often often often wonder how I can be so big yet so invisible.

I have to add a few of my own...a few borrowed from others....

.......meds

.......clothes with an X

.......granny panties

.......a swimsuit with a skirt

.......pain when I bend over

.......people asking can you eat that?

Thanks I needed that!

Oh my gosh. It's like you all know all my deepest darkest most painful thoughts! It means the world to me to know that we are all in the same process of never having to feel these awful feelings again. Best of luck to all of us.

Fat people are discriminated sometimes because of their weight...some think overweight people are lazy! The prettier clothes are sizes 14 and under for women too!

It has been so helpful to share my thoughts with others that "get it"! I have been feeling incredibly sad and not sure why.... In so thankful to share my thoughts with everyone. Wow I'm shedding some tears too, but I know this is the best decision I have ever made....for ME

I love the lists! I think its an excellent idea to bring it to the hospital the day of surgery and use before when you are nervous. I start my 6 month long program (doctor assisted diet, psych eval, PT, NP, RD, etc.) on Tues!!

Some of the things I won't miss:

Hoping there is a 2X after the 1X's on the rack of blouses.

Not taking long walks.

Hating bathing suits.

Saying "whew" when I lock the seat belt on the plane because I was so worried I'd need the add on one.

Wondering where I'll get jeans for a 4'11" size 20 woman that look good.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
