I have been on my liquid diet for 7 days (I have 7 to go). Yes, it is quite hard the first few days and you will question "What the hell am I doing?" hahaha. I had a headache the first couple days, but don't anymore. I drink 3 Protein Shakes a day, sugar free Jello, sugar free popsicles and broth. What has saved me is I get egg drop Soup from my favorite chinese restaurants and eat the broth out of it. (This was approved by my doctors office) Good luck and stay strong :)

From what I remember, there were headaches, hunger and grumpiness. But I put on my big girl panties (literally) and made it through. Never cheated and lost 22 pounds in 16 days. Now it's just a faint memory. And not even my worst memory. You can do it!!!

I've been on 4 shakes plus raw veggies a day for 13 days so far and have 16 more, as my surgery is on the 23rd.

The first two days were kinda rough for me--I felt very hungry, tired and kinda foggy and out of it. I recall feeling similar during Atkins induction, so if you've ever done that you might know what I am talking about!:) Then when I woke up on the 3rd day I felt MUCH better, and not at all as hungry. And it has just gotten easier from there.

Good luck! You've got this!

I am starting Wednesday my preop and last week I tried to see if I could do it and the hardest part was finding the right Protein which I had lots of samples from different places but the best one for me was the premier shake from costco. I did have the headaches and they went away on the 4th day. I lost 7lbs but I had my last eating out this last weekend so I gained about 3 back. I felt really good. We just need to set our minds that we can do this. Good luck all

Erin ur going to do well on ur pre-op diet. I'm on day 8 and surgery is Monday. What I will say is once I made it to day 4 it has been pretty smooth sailing. I don't feel hungry just get the urge to chew or have something with some substance. I haven't experienced any withdrawal symptoms and I think that's because I cut out the sugary foods caffeine and carbs 3-4 weeks before I started the liquid diet. The wonderful people here on these boards r very helpful so visit often to pull from all the positive vibes and on days ur up others will pull from u.

I started the pre op yesterday(Monday). I was grumpy all day lol Tuesday(today) has been much better. Still feeling a bit hungry but that is probably head hunger. I have orange creme, chocolate, and vanilla flavors. As long as they are very cold i can chug them down. I can not stand the vegtable Soup I was given.. yuck! Hopefully it gets easier. My surgery will be on the 21st and i am so ready!!

First 3 days bad headaches, 4th day it gets better. I got the vanilla bariatric advantage powder I mixed mine with skim milk and added some Davincy sugar free Syrup french vanilla it was good. I started about 4 days early just to give my body time to adjust and in case I cheated I wouldn't feel so bad. I did cheat during those first 4 days but I did it with good food. (low fat string cheese) . Good luck to you.

I'm on day 2 of my pre op, and have the worst headache ever! I'm not cheating or even thinking about having something bad for me, I would just like some coffee with cream and sugar

I am a brand newbie too. I just started my pre-op diet today!! It wasn't as bad as I feared, but I do have the headache that I've read that others have had too. On my pre-op plan I can have veggies and fruit for the first 5 days and the last two is liquids only. I wanted to share what I think is going to save me: Pho broth with just vegetables. I was even able to sit with my family with my Soup while they ate. This was a huge dread of mine. Then next week when I'm newly post surgery, I can have just the broth. The broth is really tasty and not very salty. Hope this helps someone else.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
