Any April Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

yes its very risky but it made me feel better at the momment, i wouldnt do it every day or wouldnt recommend anyone to do it, its just a risk that at the momment I felt ok trying it .. LOL :D

I did this too with a cheeseburger. I just wanted to taste the flavor and I spit it out. Didn't consider it bad or a problem at the time but can understand how it could be. I also don't plan on that being a habit. At all.

Rose - I had the sleeve and do not have any staples to be removed. Did you have a different surgery?

Some docs like staples, others don't. Mine did dissolvable internal stitches, but I've heard of many sleevers who have staples. I got my steri-strips taken off yesterday and as soon as the incisions look well-healed I will start putting Mederma on them to minimize scarring. People with staples may especially want to use Mederma, as the scars tend to be wider.
ooo im gonna look for that cream… yes I had the sleeve done. My dr used staples and I stressed last night for nothong. He removed 19 staples in less than a min with no pain.. N im down 13.6. ;)

You can get it at Walmart. It's a little pricey but it actually works and a little goes a long way.

Told you it wouldn't be that bad. :)

Congrats on the 13.6!!!!!!

I found something yummy at the grocery store.... has anyone seen these? .....Greek yogurt Popsicles! I got cherry flavored. I took it off the stick and put it in a bowl, ate it with my little demitasse spoon. It was delicious, like cherry ice cream, but with high protein! It made me so full I skipped dinner. Or, I guess it it WAS my dinner. Lol

How are you all keeping track of your Fluid intake? Paper and pencil? Remember it in your head? Phone app? What?

I'm using My Fitness Pal app. You can keep track in the Water section or add it in the Snacks section. That's the way I do it because it's easier for me to add at the end.

Are there any rules about chewing gum. I know it serves no purpose diet wise but I've always done it and now the urge to do it is back. I just want to make sure it won't like cause gas issues with swallowing to much air or something, the same question about straws?? Thx

My doc and NUT have had me on straws since the beginning. They said the him and straw things are myths. As long as you aren't chewing open mouthed and taking in a bunch of air while you chew- you should be okay. Same thing goes for straws. Only sip/drink when your straw is fully immersed in the liquid. Obviously, if you are sipping the bottom of the cup and there is no liquid you are only inhaling air. I've not had any problems with the straw. Never been a big gum person.

I heard of a new app today, just for tracking Water. It's called "Hy" (short for hydration) and it's available for iPhone in the Apple Store.

Too bad I'm an Android gal..... It's not available for Android yet. :(

I have a 32oz water bottle (I actually bought two). I fill it up in the morning and know that I have to finish it by lunch and then refill for the afternoon by bedtime. I am only 5 days post surgery so I haven't been able to drink the entire 64oz yet but that is my goal.

I'm doing great. No pain problems (unless I cough, that is). No issues with my sleeve, no nausea, etc. I weighed at my post-op appt on Thursday, 6 days after surgery, and I had already lost 13 lb. My daughter and fiancé both said they can tell I've lost weight, it already shows. Wow!

I'm on full liquids so eating lots of Soups, the best-tasting ones I can find in the local restaurants. I can only eat 1/3 C at a time so it better dam well taste fantastic! I puree it if necessary, and one bowl lasts me a few days.

Today is my 49th birthday, and my family is genuinely distressed that they can't take me to dinner or bake me a cake. It's much harder on them than it is me, I didn't expect that. It was a gorgeous day here today and my daughter brought me flowers and balloons and a great bowl of Soup, so I had a wonderful day!

Next year I will be making a small SF Protein "cake" and SF Protein ice cream so my family can Celebrate with me, more for them than for me. :)

How are YOU doing?

Glad to hear folks are doing well - I was sleeved last Tuesday and am doing fine getting Water and Protein in, but still haven't lost the hospital Fluid weight. Drives me nuts! I literally went up 20 pounds in the three days I was at the hospital, and still have only lost 12 of it. Also I feel okay physically and am walking - my shoulders still hurt a lot though. Do I need more water? I'm getting 55-60 oz a day.

I am not doing great either.. I found if I try to get a bottle of flavored Vitamin water down between Breakfast and lunch and then one between lunch and dinner after dinner I drink some caffeine free herbal tea that helps! Just gotta keep sip sip sipping away! No way I'm gonna do 64 oz yet though it just doesn't fit! Haha

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
