APRIL 21st Sleevers!

Recommended Posts

How is everyone doing today...

I wanted to do a food roll call to see what my fellow april 21st sleevers are eating and drinking:

Today I had egg salad (really runny)

Also had half Water and half low-cal gatorade.

My unflavored Protein powder is supposed to be here today I'm excited to start adding it to my gatorade.

Pre-Op I was making shakes with powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury powder... but I find that the flavors are too sweet for me now and I can't stand anything that has too much of a "sweet" flavor.

Have you guys experienced this?

Me too...I got to move on to purées and had 2 ounces of my favorite unsweetened Trader Joes applesauce....it tastes horrible! Even the syntax nectar shakes I loved, blech! And I can smell more sharply - anyone else have that?

I had 2 oz of mashed tuna fish (with onion powder and a little nonfat fage to make it soft purée "tuna salad") so good!

I had a Premier Protein shake for breakfast/lunch. It took me that long to finish.

I went to Whole Foods Market and got clam chowder but had the guy in the kitchen strain it for me.

Tonight I'll make a Protein Shake in the nutribullet.

Got my unflavored Protein Powder in the mail and I think its fine but I'm not going to be able to use much at one time without the flavor getting to me. Its got a weird tang to it.

I'm gonna try mixing it in some yogurt and fruit tomorrow.

They gave me prozac. Said it was hormones. Told me to try 30 days. I'm skeptical.

Prozac is really strong! How are you doing with it?

I'm jealous of you guys! My plan had one week of Clear Liquids, now I'm on two weeks of full liquids. No food. So, today I had an Atkins shake for Breakfast, 1/2 c of strained egg drop Soup for lunch and 1/2 c of strained Tomato basil soup for dinner. I'm adding small amounts of Protein to my Soups but I can't do the powder shakes anymore. I've had a retch reaction every time I try. I even ordered the nectar samples and could not take it. It's not the sweetness for me it's that overwhelming protein powder taste. So, sadly, I'm not reaching protein goals.

Hey all the April 21st sleevers!

How is everyone hanging in there!? We are about 10 days post-op and I'm curious how everyone progressing. How are we all feeling? What are we eating? Anyone working out yet?

I've been feeling good. Still dealing with incision pain but am definitely happy to see most of my gas pain gone!! That was horrendous!!

I subsist on cottage cheese, Protein shakes, Water, diet Snapple and broth. I keep telling myself I'll get creative and make Protein pudding or eat the Popsicles in the freezer but then I forget lol

I actually have started working out! I've been walking the dog everyday, 5-6 times a day and then started the elliptical yesterday. As long as I focus on controlling and keeping my upper body still, I don't exacerbate my incision pain and feel great!

The emotional head game is never ending. Though I'm not hungry, I find myself wishing to dive, face first, into my mom'a lasagna. Mind you, a fourth cup of cottage cheese takes a whole to get down but this head hunger is wicked.

I didn't have a scale here at my parents, where I'm recovering, and finally broke down and bought one. I was super happy at the results!! I was worried, despite feeling the changes in my body - my head really plays tricks on me!! I'm now at 254!! I was 267 the day of surgery and my highest weight was 301, back in August 2013, when I started this journey! I started the pre-op liquid diet at 282.

In total, I'm down 47 pounds from my highest weight and 28 pounds since my pre-op started on 4/8 (3 weeks, 1 week-ish post-op)

How is everyone else doing? Everyone hanging in there ok? Hope you're all doing well!!!

My Dr's plan has me add nonfat instant dry milk to make anything high Protein. I've added it to Soups & pudding. It just makes it a bit richer, doesn't affect the flavor much.

I was really surprised to be able to tolerate cream of Tomato Soup and lo sodium V8. For me, the unflavored Isopure disappeared -- but everyone's tastes are different especially post op. The actigall I dissolve in Sobe and can get it down, the nexium is a little harder.

I took one and felt better. I haven't taken anymore. I guess I will if I start crying again but I feel fine.

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
