May 2007 Banders

I did want to eat the kids earlier though. Ha Ha!

Around day four of my pre-op I would have gladly traded one of my kids for a taco! And for both kids? A cheesburger!

Hello May Bandsters!

I am counting down the days till the 11th, but am STRUGGLING with the pre-op diet (what pre-op diet??). I get so motivated when I see everyone doing their liquid diets, but I just can't bring myself to stick to it! I am being banded by Dr. Spivak, and he said to stick to a low-carb diet (can't do that either!)...he really just doesn't want me to gain weight. But I am eating stuff like mad!! HELP!! It's the TOM for me, so hopefully that is why I am craving so many things.

SO, I have officially vowed to start a liquid diet TOMORROW, and stick with it until next Friday. I have only 7 days, and I KNOW I can do it after getting inspired by everyone else here. If anyone has any encouraging words, please throw them my way. My hubby is out of town this weekend for a volleyball tournament, so I have the boys (6 & 8) by myself. We will spend all morning at the ball field, then have a baby shower to go to (complete with fajitas, cake, etc)so I am not really sure how I will do this. Maybe I'll take a cooler with some Protein drinks...I got some of the SlimFast low carb ones. Are there other ones that taste better? Or are more filling?? I heard that the Better Than Boullion is really good, so I will try that also. Oh, I hope I can do this.

I guess it goes to show that I really do need this band. I am so controlled by food...I have heard that after having the band for awhile, you don't really even think about eating. That thought is liberating to me. I cannot imagine what it will be like to not care about eating. (but it won't even compare to what it will feel like to be thinner!!!!!!!) Aren't you all EXCITED?? I am! (if I could just get through this pre-op stuff!!!) HA!

I pray for strength and healing for all those who were recently banded. Your comments are encouraging and comforting to those of us who are following close behind. And to those of us who will be banded soon...I pray most importantly for peace of mind. It is so easy to feel fearful at this point. But I KNOW we will do GREAT!!! Pretty soon we will ALL be on the "other side", and we'll be there for encouragement and support.

Blessings to all!!!

OK.... so, yesterday you vowed to start your diet TODAY. How are you doing? Did you make it through your first day?

The headache happens to a lot of people who are on the pre-op diet. Be sure you are keeping hydrated with Water in addition to the shakes. After day three it usually gets better and I applaud you for sticking to the diet in the face of all that temptation! IF it should get overwhelming--eat a lettuce, at least its mostly water!

Jane,

Is your surgery scheduled for Saturday, May 26? I guess I mistakenly put it on May 28 on our calendar. I will add a column for Saturdays and put you on as soon as I hear from you.

Thanks,

NimbleBean

It is so good to hear from those of you who have already had your surgeries. Thanks for all the updates and keep sharing the advice!! I start my pre-op diet Thursday and just keep thinking wow this is the last time i can order anything i want off the menu and eat the whole awful thing. As much as I am dreading the pre op diet I am ready for it to be here so I can get it over with!

So I have a weird question, because I am quite a modest person, I have just started wondering what exactly do we wear during the surgery?

I've always gone into surgery with a hospital gown on.. I guess they can do what they want with me while I'm knocked out.. draw funny faces on my tummy or something :Banane43:

Maureen,

Good luck with your gall bladder surgery. Yikes! You are going to have a rough couple of weeks! I'll be thinking about you Monday. Keep me posted. It's great to know we will be in this together!

Thanks....I just wish they would do them together. I have never had a problem with my gall bladder. The doc wants it out so.....I go in tomorrow. I feel like I am having a trial surgery......just to get me in the mood:eek:.

The chart is so helpful....its great to see others going through this at the same time.

Thanks for the well wishes,

2 weeks from tomorrow:clap2:

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
