Cleared for regular diet 1 week after surgery

Recommended Posts

I just went to my post op appt today. I had my surgery a week ago yesterday and my dr cleared me for regular foods and just said chew very well and make sure the food is very moist. Sounds good to me but I thought people go through stages..

yes, go slow, chew a lot and take your time...no need to rush back as you are still very swollen inside....listen to your body/signs

Every doctor is so different with their pre and post op plans. I went through many post-op diet phases, slowly adding back different foods. Some doctors have their patients on Clear liquids for two weeks post op. Thank God mine wasn't one of those!

Anyway, do what your doctor says, and make sure to go VERY slow. Even though he's allowed you back on full foods, it's probably a good idea to start with mushy food; chew small bites until it's liquid, and wait for each bite to go all the way down. The key is slow and careful. You will find your way......

this is fast paced but this is why we say to listen to your doctor first. my phases were in days not weeks. i think i was a bit more quicker than most i have read in here as well. at 1 week though i was just starting the mushie stage. fish, etc. so be careful and if you do have stuck issues just go backwards in your diet for at least a day. helps with the swelling. always test your stoma, band by doing a little bite and wait for a few min's to see if it makes it through okay. and than proceed to eat small, and slowly and throughly. good luck

We all have differing protocols. I was on one day clear, one week full liquids, one week mushies then on to real foods. I wasn't really hungry post-op and for me it was a great time to get used to small portions, small utensils, tiny bites chewed really well and most of all stopping prior to a feeling of fullness. I got stuck early on with steamed beets of all things. Was gobbling. Taught me a lesson, that's for sure! Good luck to you and enjoy this new time in your life when food is not ruling your life.

Yes, that is true, however if your doc said to eat, then eat as he suggested. Best wishes

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
