Have stopped losing weight - any tips for plateaus...

Recommended Posts

so the start of my journey was amazing the lbs just seemed to melt away for the first 3 months starting with my pre op diet i have managed to lose 38lbs. but lately and i mean the last 3/4 weeks i can not lose weight.. the inches don't seem to be shrinking.. i just can't get past this plateau.. i have a fill scheduled on Monday. i'm at 8cc in a 14cc band and some days i wonder if i have the band at all. other day's it's one mouthful of what ever and yup i'm reminded that i need to take it easy..

any way the reason for my post is for help and suggestions on how to push past this. i eat normally between 900 and 1400 calories a day. i work out or walk usually 2x a day 4 to 5 days a week. i'm just stumped as to why i am finding it so hard to lose weight..

Hi Interlish,

So far your doing well. If your eating up to 1400 cal a day, cut that back a bit, and perhaps boost up the intensity of the work out your doing.

Rather then walking 2x a day try to throw in some strength training or a different more dynamic aerobic work out like Zumba, or biking on a stationary or recumbent bike.

Our bodies are great at adaptation so sometimes we need to shake things up and break it out of it's comfort zone. For me personally 1400 calories is way too much for the day. Dr. tells me to not go over 1200 even though I have a fast metabolism I'm too sedentary for it to apply.

Let me know how it goes!!

Lisa is right. Cut back to 1000(you need a fill for this) calories a day and the weight loss should return. But, if you feel like you can still eat anything a small fill is in order. I didn't find any satiety till my 3rd fill 4 months into my journey and did not find the green zone till my 6th fill 7 months into my journey.

One more thought. Plateaus can occur and I find that beefing up my exercise routine with long bike rides and racquetball or tennis helps to break that cycle. Varying your weekly caloric consumption also keeps your metabolism active. jmo

Agree with the above. Also drink lots of Water and make sure you are journaling properly. I stated checking mine slower and I was sneaking in 100+ calories a day with coffee Creamer, chewable Vitamins etc. When I got honest with my journaling and dropped my calorie intake to a low rate, the weight started coming off. As said above, mix it up. I do something til I stop losing then I start trying other things and get the weight loss started again. And, if you're getting hungry before 4 hours, a fill is definitely in order.

I agree with cutting back on the calories. If you are eating less your body has no choice but to burn the fat. Try to not eat carbs for about a week and stick to Protein you should start losing again.

thanks guys.. the 1400 cal thing is a once a week to try and keep my body on it's toes so to speak the usual intake is less than 1200 a day.. but on the exercise front i think that may be the issue all i do is walk perhaps it's time to try something different. though i tried running on the treadmill and with all the shaking and giggling :D ... i figured i need to lose a few more inches before that becomes a safe activity.

I had plateaued 4 months out from surgery and I had a consult with my nutritionist. She helped me find about 300 calories a day that I was not accounting for. She also made some other suggestions which I followed and the weight just started to fall off for months afterwards. Maybe you need a consult?

I've got the jiggly bits as well when I run on the treadmill. I invested in some compression pants (pretty reasonably priced at Old Navy) and a really good sport bra. Both items really helped! Just a suggestion.

i didn't keep my food log for about a month and i gained 3 lbs this last checkup. so my food log , scale, calorie, nutritional books are all back out on my counter. i thought i could do it without them and just get on with my life but hell no. so , keep a running log and make sure you list everything. most everything that goes in your mouth has calories. my doctor has me eating

Protein -60 grams a day

total carbs- 15-30 grams a meal

fats---5grams a meal

calories 1000-1200 a day

being diabetic i already don't do sugar and i think i will not eat any carbs this month and see what happens. good luck

Some people are successful with carb cycling. I am sort of plateaued, too, af about three months out but I figure it is good for my body to settle in to this and then drop the next chunk. I'm glad I have no issues with thinning hair, etc.

Terry, thanks for listing what you are doing for calories, Protein, carbs, etc. That's helpful for me as I've been wondering. I have been aiming for 1,ooo calories a day and 60 grams Protein -- have not really mastered that yet.

Bandista, if it helps, my surgeon says 60 net carbs , which means I can subtract the fibers from my carb count

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
