You aren't alone...

I still wanna eat because it's dinner time, because everyone else around is eating, because i'm sitting down watching tv, because, because, because.

Even if I know i'm not really hungry.

Its more of a social thing I think for me.

At least now, it's a lot less volume....a LOT less.

The whole "for now" thing might be working for me. Satiety definition is having had enough food for now. Doesn't mean we can't have some later, just that right now I'm agreeing with my brain that, guess what, I've had enough for now. Hoping this will work for me -- it's a completely new thought. Evenings are brutal. We live very well.

ive been banded now for coming up two years and i think this head hunger is the hardest hurdle to ever get over... so we have to dig our heels in and just cope with it. Ive been a smoker and as addictive as smoking is, eating is a far greater problem. I guess its because we are faced with the exposure to food in order to live. when we give up smoking we dont ever have to touch them again.

I find though that grazing, very small amounts of tasty food, help me a lot. I dont expect that i will ever get to the point where i dont love food. Our family ''just love our chaff bags''..lol... and we all recognise that. AS i get older though im seeing that i need more spices in my food. I didnt realize that as we age our taste buds start to retire.. lol.. and thats a fact. Im beginning to think mine have just about all given up. they havent though. But my need is for more savoury spicy food as the taste buds are giving up.

ive found a solution for that though... as my diet contains a lot of Soups still im using apple cider vinegar a lot. put it in my Soups, over my salads and wherever.. i even put a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a glass of orange juice. Its leaving me more satisfied when ive finished whats on my plate. i dont need as much food to feel satiated. i think its the amount of flavour we crave that dictates how much we eat.

..just to add to this. Im finding that the combination of garlic, salt, lemon sliced, chilli, and vinegar are enough to make me feel satiated. its this combination that is working really well for me right now. Good luck

I seem to have mitigated a lot of the excess over the holidays but I'm going for the 5 Day Pouch Test starting Monday. Not looking forward to it but it needs to be done.

The head wants us to believe were hungry but if we take to many bites our stomachs and band will say no no , but if it really does bother you at ties as it does me sometimes I just get a big glass of Water and drink that cold or room temp and drink that not fast but it seems to help me , not sure if it will help you but it does help me .

The band doesnt stop hunger pains that are developed in your brain. It's a shame the fills dont restrict our brains. Fight it with Protein shakes and lowfat greek yogurt. Have lowcal Snacks available.

We all have to fight through this feeling.

hey t

what a great question and i dont have an answer

catfish is dead on i feel.......when i am bored, watching tv, or

see hub snackig or people at work eating (all the time it seems)

sure i want to eat also.....i found during my pre op, what head hunger was

it turned out when i thought i was hungry and by me drinking, it would go away

so that is what i do now.......although if i am truly hungry, i eat..i do not deprive...i have

Protein filled Snacks everywhere ready to grab...(and drink alot)

so i am 19 months out and i still get that as well

i just hande it differently now

It has been a year now, why in the hell am I still wrestling with this?

I don't even call it head hunger anymore cuz it comes up right after I eat sometimes, especially if their is something in the panty I can't have but sounds good (like grand kids goodies). I try to drink through it and keep telling myself it's not hunger at all just boredom. If that doesn't work, I have myself a small sugar free or Protein snack. At least if I'm going to have something, I want it to be something that won't destroy me. If I have even one bad carb, it invites another to the party. My WW teacher use to advocate the bags of small candy bars and just having one when you get the craving.......well, you can figure how that went, lol. And, here I am.

Thanks guys, I was mainly venting because I was so frustrated. Head hunger was probably a misnomer, I wasn't hungry at all, but I had a bad day and I was battling a very strong desire to eat to experience the pleasure that eating brings. By the time I wrote that post, I had already had two cups of coffee and a couple of pieces of dark chocolate to try and curb the desire, but the monster wasn't going to be satisfied with anything less than mass quantities of food. Thankfully Mistress Band helped keep me from doing it by the very knowledge that she had her stiletto heels on and ready if I ate anything.

I haven't heard of the effects vinegar has on our body and cravings. What does apple cider vinegar do to your food? How does it change the flavor? I saw you put it in the orange juice doesn't it make it taste gross? Having lap banding tomorrow and interested in is much info as I can get.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
