January fitness challenge

Recommended Posts

Ok , here are my goals for January, upping my walking to 110 miles/month, going to go back to yoga class when it starts up, should get in another 10 classes this month, also going to strength training classes(will try not to complain so loudly about them!), I will also add in 30 min, 4x a week either on the eliptical or recumbent. I only got in 2 miles today, this bronchitis is kicking my butt, I'm sure that having asthma doesn't help, hopefully it will be gone soon. MTD-2 miles

Oh, Butter, you've got to be more careful, you will be running out of toes !

So I started my new year off right.....with a 6.5 mile trail run....and a broken pinkie toe. Yep....it's déjà vu all over again. I just broke a toe back in September and now another one. Tripped over a nasty root. The leaves on the trail this time of year cover up all the obstacles, making it precarious. Icing it right now....hoping I can get a shoe on tomorrow.

I'M BACKKKKK!!! I think I have finally beat the crud! It killed me on the last 2 weeks of the December Challenge. But I am ready for a new month and a new Challenge!

My goal for this month will be:

100 miles walked/biked

weight workout 3 days a week

Minimum of 2 trail hikes at the lake

Today I had a good workout using my garage sale find weight station. I worked out my biceps, triceps and chest. I did high reps with low weight.

I have also walked a total of 4.65 miles today. It has been a great day!

Butter, if there was a dislike option for this post about your injury, I would press it and bet a whole lot of other members would follow. Hope you recover soon.

I believe you were quoting redbean...she's pure Cajun. I'm a Texan too. Little blip on the radar called Tarkington Prairie.

You know what, I am so disappointed in the "results" from Insanity that I am rethinking my January challenge. 30 days in and if I stare really really hard at a photo I can maybe see a TINY change in my ribcage line from behind, otherwise no changes whatsoever - not on the scale, not in the clothes, not in pictures - nothing. Yes, I AM capable of doing SOME of the exercises more thoroughly now, but my balance has not improved.

My point is, is that I have committed in good faith and this program has not delivered. Plus all this cardio I think is actually shooting me in the foot for weight loss, I take in about 1000-1200 cals on Insanity days. What do you think Fiddle?

I'm thinking of dropping Insanity alltogether and just doing weights instead.

Globetrotter, I read some on insanity, but seems strange you're not seeing results. They do say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Do you think you may be overdoing it and not getting in enough nutrients or liquids?

Globe you're not giving it enough time to work. You can't expect to see results in 30 days. That's a pipe dream. Fitness is a lifetime pursuit and 30 days is hardly enough time to reshape your body.

Fiddle, on the contrary…I find this very helpful. While I was swimming the other day I was thinking specifically about how it might help my posture. Despite being a singer, my posture is (overall) piss poor and I have a kyphosis as well. Filing this all away.

Fluff,

I have to say, you are improving my vocabulary. I have had to look up a word in the dictionary at least twice this week to get the definition. I appreciate you helping me with brain fitness also.

Sigh. I'll try to dial it back.

In other news I am battling both a head cold and TOM right now and don't want to move or make anyone else sick. I've put back on 2-3 pounds of Water weight too. Sigh. I'll reevaluate as I get closer to my class time, but I am glad there are 31 days in January.

Okay, whining over.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
