Over 350lbs Success With VSG

Recommended Posts

Hi, I had pretty well made my mind up to have the sleeve. I'm starting my process in order to be approved by my insurance now. However I am concerned with whether or not the sleeve is the best option for all the weight I need to lose. I'm beginning to wonder if gastric bypass would be a better solution. So I was just wondering are there many of you out there that have lost over 150lbs or more with VSG? If so how long did it take you to achieve your goal weight?

lost over 150lbs or more with VSG?

LaylaJ

i have seen others that also need to lose 100+ lbs

i know there are success stories :)

how long did it take for them to lose???

answer will vary

all of us are different, no matter what their/your/my necessary weight loss is

we lose at our own speed :)

never compare your weight loss to how others lose :o

people have been shot for less

there is a thread called "Weight Loss Specific Gastric Sleeve"

people post in their specific area of necessary weight loss

there is a group of people who need to lose 100+ lbs

good luck with jumping threw the hoops of insurance

you have my sympathy ;) (been there done that!!!)

starting the process of getting the sleeve

what a great way to end one year - and start a new

here is to 2014 and a healthier, happier, longer life :)

good luck

kathy

I was just sleeved 13 weeks ago. I started at 410. I'm now at 330. I have lost 80 pounds. I know the sleeve was the right choice for me. I feel great. I have more energy now than I have in 10 years. For me bypass was too risky. I didn't want anything rerouted. I was worried about running to the bathroom after eating. With the sleeve I feel normal. I don't have any side effects.

I agree totally with you. There was no way I wanted to be re plumbed. The gastric sleeve for me was the perfect solution for my weight loss goals and I have lost 130 pounds since I started and almost 90 pounds since surgery. There is no reason why you can't lose 100 pounds or more with the sleeve. Good luck on your decision.

I was sleeved on the 24th of October and I'm down 65 pounds. I started out at 370. I felt the sleeve was best for me because it had minimal side effects and I wanted this to be a permanent life changing event for me. Either way you go I think you are going to drop weight as long as you are motivated to do so.

Hey I got my sleeve 16 months ago and lost 140 pounds I was 380 and now ima down to 240 ish but I'm actually getting converted to the bypass due too really bad acid reflex but also it can boost up me weight losing becuz eventual after 18 the weight loss stops or slow downs .. But I think the bypass will help you lose maybe alil more then the sleeve but they both work great so just make sure you get the one you really want!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
