How long before you can go back to work after VSG?

Recommended Posts

Hi! I have told my family and they are very supportive! Especially my husband, mom and sister! I have 3 kids. My oldest is worried! I don't work any more so I don't have to worry about work! That's good that your friends will be supportive but too bad about your family! :(

I have been checking out this app to see if there is like an instant messanger but don't see one. Do you have yahoo messenger?

Hi, hope it's ok for me to butt into your conversation. I am also new to this site and I would love to be able to share with others. I am meeting with the bariatric team (surgeon, nutritionist, etc,) on January 8 and 9 and should be getting my surgery within 3 months after that. I'm from Quebec, so it's a bit different here. My insurance will cover it and I have to be off work for 3 months, which I think is entirely too long. I am a teacher and mother of a 5 year old girl.I have read every book and watched every youtube video on the sleeve and I am terrified, but I feel like I have to do it. I also have over 100 lbs to lose and I don't feel like I can do it by myself anymore. I would love to keep sharing with you as we continue our journey to becoming healthy.

Hi Shelly, I did that wrong. See my answer below.

Wow! 3 months off? That is great! I would love to keep in touch throughout this journey. I am not sure yet when my surgery will be. I'm hoping for feb. But we will see.

Not really a newbie to the board, but a newbie to the process. I have Kaiser and this is my last week of the Options classes (there were 12). So I am very stoked about that.

The only thing that is in the way at this point is the fact that I need to do a sleep apnea study but my appointment isn't until March!! :( So I will basically be twiddling my thumbs until then. Been bugging them about getting in to any cancelled appt spots though. Annoying thing is that I have no symptoms of sleep apnea but they are still making me do it. Oh well.. I figure these things happen for a reason.

After that I will have a series of pre-op appointments, such as psych, etc.

I'm excited though. Best of luck to all :)

Hi Ladies, I am a newbie also. Went to the Seminar in December and I have my first consultation with the surgeon on January 10. I believe my insurance covers bariatric surgery when medically necessary and I have a BMI over 40. I just hope I don't have to do the 6 month weigh in, keeping fingers crossed. I will follow up when I meet with surgeon and know more about what my requirements are. I have great support from my family, friends and co-workers! Good luck to all.

I will be out a full 6 weeks. I had a really rough surgery (revision) and my recovery was difficult. My Dr. wanted me to have minimal stress and really master the rules for sleeve living.

I took 6 days off work, luckily had no complications post op and was able to keep up with my work load including lots of driving and carrying my files.

The answer is it depends. You will find that answer throughout the forum regarding pre and post-op diets and how long off work. A lot depends on the type of job you have. If you are a nurse and lift patients or a very physical job, it will likely be longer than a person who has a desk job. I was off a week, had a different surgery the following Monday and worked from home half days the remainder of the second wee. I returned to work full time the following week.

I'm a hair stylist and was back in two weeks but just took one client a day for the first week and two clients a day the next week.

I have a pretty active job and went back after 6 days. But I have been able to control my hours... Day 6 3 hours, Day 7 6 hours, Day 8 2 hours, Day 9 off, Day 10 5 hours, etc. I normally work 10 hour days, so definitely couldn't have jumped into that on day 6!

I had my surgery on 12.12.13. My last day was 12.11.13. I took 2 weeks off. But I work for a University and we are closed for 2 weeks for the "Winter Holiday".We reopen on the 2nd. I go back on the 13th. So I'll be out of the office for 4 weeks. I feel fine. But I love having this time off. I'll never be off of work for 4 weeks again. I grabbed my chance.

I went back after about ten days, and I was okay. I have a job where I stand all day too.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
