Oh The Holiday Treats....

Recommended Posts

I'm OVER the whole holiday treats thing.

Kids were off school Friday due to weather. Of course, this was my chance to make Christmas goodies. Made three different offerings...ginger snaps, M&M Cookies, and Rice Krispie treats.

You know what? I get ZERO restriction from any of these goodies. What a SHOCK!?

Ran them all down the garbage disposal last night.

If I bake like this again, it will be a small plate for our family and gift plates to all the neighbors. Don't need this crap sitting around calling my name.

Thank you for reading. Rant over.

I love shortbread Cookies with fruit and walnuts in them. You can only get them this time of year...I have eaten more then a few of them so far..But instead of tossing them out they lurk in my freezer waiting for my next onset of depression or whatever......Can't dispose of them yet....

They are like a pack of cigarettes that people keep in their pocket just in case while they are breaking the habit.......Last year I did not have to face this I just got out of a coma and could not eat or drink for 5 months.....yikes....This season is rearing it's ugly head......

This is my biggest fear too. It's all well and good to be on a restricted diet while you lose weight. But to eat like this the rest of my life with no breaks? It's a bigger mind shift than I think most of us are ready for.

Hang tight and congratulate yourself on throwing stuff away. Smart move.

I went septic 4 days after WLS. They had to induce a coma because of the amount of pain I was in...I was in it for 19 days...

I spent 5 months in the hospital due to complications with this surgery and am still fighting with my health for over a year now....Long story really......

I know just what you mean. Last couple of days I have wanted foods that n my heart and head I know are no good for me. Cookies cakes etc... Are not really my thing. But due to my work schedule, eating at all hours is. I have wanted to nosh on ANYTHING around midnight and later! This morning I woke up wanting a sausage egg and cheese from Dunkin. Even went so far as to check the nutritional values in MFP. But it is a fighting battle everyday. And so far I am winning. I make things for my son I dont like but know he does. I buy Snacks HE likes, where I used to buy things we could both enjoy.

This morning instead of the DD Breakfast sandwich, i had a scrambled egg muffin with turkey sausage, peppers and onions. That filled me up and satisfied me. But it is a SERIOUS conscious effort I have to make. One day at a time and one right decision at a time. Thats the only way I will survive, not only the holidays, but the rest of my life!

Congrats on making the right decision. As hard as it is, you should be proud.

Yep, why NOT eat like this for the rest of our lives? I am glad that some can be balanced. I cannot be. I am a junkie and MUST avoid the junk, of the entire fat cycle will start over again!

I was so satisfied with scrambled eggs for Breakfast and tuna at lunch. If the junk isn't around, then I can't eat it. (Maybe this is how my hubby has lost 30 lbs since my sleeve?? Ha!)

So if an alcoholic avoids alcohol, a druggie avoids drugs, former fatties must avoid Rice Krispie Treats!!! It's sure true for me!

Moderation and occasional indulgences are great and I do that - but having the temptation sitting on the counter while snowbound at home all weekend is a recipe for disaster!

I am a baker by heart, and love to bake goodies! This year I decided the unhealthy stuff will go to friends and family. I have healthier versions of some of my favorites that I plan on making this year for us to eat here, though.

I am also a junkie - BIG TIME!!

Me too! I still do holiday baking, but I package it up and give it away. I leave just a little for hubby I fill my cute holiday candy jars with peppermint candy because it doesn't interest me. I buy low cal holiday treats, such as sugar free Torini pumpkin pie Syrup ( great in coffee with a splash of milk or soy milk!), sugar free hot cider, little cutie tangerines, small amounts of nuts in the shell ( slows me down because I have to shell them), turkey little smokies, and the laughing cow cinnamon cream cheese. I also buy scented candles because I love the holiday scents. I eat Protein first at holiday parties.

I will NEVER be able to ignore my eating.

Just a quick question and off topic. What do you eat the cinnamon cream cheese with? I eat LC all the time but want to try the cinnamon and can't figure out what to eat it with. Apples maybe?

I eat it on Special K crackers, graham crackers, or mini Bagels. Probably good with apple slices too but I usually eat those with PB2.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
