7 months out and still losing hair... i have cut it shorter and am trying different styles to cover the gaps. But have started looking at ways of supplementing my hair.< /p>

We have a place called Lucinda Ellery and they provide hair filling services for women losing hair. The results are amazing but not cheap. But am getting close to a consultation if this continues....

My SIL is going to send me something called Nioxin. She said it was a follicle stimulating thing. Look how smart I sound sheesh!!!

I better look into it before I continue talking about it !!! lol

But I had the same idea I have to cut it to make it appear fuller and not like I'm a balding 32 year old !!!

I cry every morning as I get ready for work. The Hair loss is dramatic and I call it "collateral damage".

At 11 weeks out, Im now losing hair. I have had to flat Iron my hair a few times for social functions recently and both the front and back of my short was covered in hair :( I hated seeing it. I notice hair in my hand every time I stick my hand near my hair (shampooing is really bad). I knew this was going to probably be bad for me because of my struggle with getting Proteins in and not doing well with lactose or Protein Shakes at all. I just hope me having super thick hair will play into my favor...

Awkward, Artymama, don't cry, it will get better. The weird thing is if I had lost this much hair with my big round face, I would have been even more upset. As it is, I now have a small face and short hair - probably an ok combo. But it still doesn't look like me... And I can't hide behind my hair like I used to lol....

I'm not exact of cause..but my shedding just started..got a roller set yesterday so I can stay out of it...and I cannot sit for braids! Lol. Not right now. I guess I'm going to know how well staying out of it will work. My stylist said she can see a difference. Irony is hair length is still growing, but shedding like a cat! Probably the natural styles will feature high for me soon!

Ok, I understand. But, I hope it gets better. :( I know I'll probably shed badly too.

I think higher fats can only help our skin and hair but I do take essential fatty acids in the form of fish oil and evening primrose oil and it's still happening. I tell you what. There is no scientific evidence for Biotin, shampoos, etc to work. We can take them superstitiously but no evidence. Eating adequate Protein keeps you from losing MORE hair than we would but we're still going to lose the hair we would because if the anesthesia. The only things that seem to work are time, rogaine which will stop working when you stop using it, and artificial help like Toppix, extensions, and wigs. So I'm saving my money for the expensive extensions to thicken it when I can't stand it anymore. In the meantime, I guess I need to stop being lazy and use product like root boosters to add volume. Oh and to add insult to injury? It's all coming out the top and front where I can see it rather than the back which is thick as ever where I could have lied to myself and pretended that if I couldn't see it, then it wasn't happening. :)

actually my hair use to grow slowly but once I started taking biotin and silica, my hair grew way faster. Hair also grew in places it didn't grow before. That's my scientific evidence for me. It also cost me more money bc I have to color my hair more often now. :P the things we have to do for our beautiful hair. LOL

Thanks for everyone's replies. I spoke with my Dr today concerning it and he prescribed me 50,000 units of Vitamin d a week and a prescription Iron supplement. He said that since I had such a difficult surgery (complete blood transfusion) and I was a chronic anemic this could have been a contributing factor.

The good news is I see a lot of re growth but I'm still losing a lot of hair!

You should try add a few healthy fats to your diet such as avocado, salmon and coconut oil. I was one of the lucky ones, I don't think I lost a strand.. But I have lost 117lbs (almost 10 months post op). I did start adding these from the moment I was allowed to eat puréed/soft diet.

My hair started to fall out at 3 .5 months and kept on till about 7 months. It got thin and I've always had thick hair. I cut it short..it's thickening back up nicely and looks cute....people constantly tell me how good it looks..that's of they recognize me 136 lbs lighter!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
