Good luck to all sleevers this week. I am finally going in on Wednesday!!! I have to admit the preop diet hasnt been fun...not because I have been starving but because to much of the same thing makes me sick (I.e. yogurts, jello). Hopefully I could get through weeks 1 and 2 swiftly. pureed food looks good right now lol.

I'm post up day 5. Getting in all the Protein and Water has been rough. Everyday gets easier though. Can't wait for pureed food! My new smaller belly always has bubbles in it though. Anyone else having that issue?

P.S. Isopure clear liquid drinks are disgusting to me but maybe its just me blah.

The waiting oy! Should be back before 11

By now many of my 16th sleever siblings are hopefully well under way! Prayers sent!!!

I sure wished I had known it was going to be so late, considering I was asked to be here by 5:30am, who would have guessed! I rested and my hubby is trying his best to rest. My mom came up too, she left a bit ago to let dogs out. I tried to get hubby to go with her since she lives less than 10 mins from here, we live 45 mins from here.

To the sleevers the next few days I am sending prayers out since I may not be coherent enough later to try!

Best wishes and super good thoughts for today's crew! Tomorrow I'm up, and my head is spinning trying to get all last minute stuff done and the snow here is not cooperating!

Hoping that our bodies will not reject what we are about to do to them... it's a continuous fight, but we gotta keep fighting the good fight I suppose! Hang in there everyone and good luck!!!

Good luck with the pre-op. I found that the first three days were the hardest then it gets better. My diet wasn't all liquids so I'm sure that made it some what easier. I'm coming to the end of my pre-op days. Thought I would do just liquids tomorrow to clean the system before the big day Wednesday. Btw your surgery is on my birthday. I'll be sending out special wishes to all the sleepers that day.

Try not so suck in any air when your sipping. Swallowing air can sure cause burping. Try keeping your mouth closed until the liquid hits your lips. Hope it helps.

I, too, am post op 5 days, and can't drink a single shake without a lot of gurgling. Yesterday it was painful gurgling, today it's just lot of earthquake type gurgling. I have been using the Gas-x strips that melt on your tongue, and Omeprazole, which seems to help a bit". Right now the only thing that doesn't seem to gurgle is Popsicles.

I do make sure that my mouth is closed when I sip to eliminate excess air from going in, but I am sure there is still so much swelling and rawness that it only makes sense that it wouldn't be completely smooth yet.

Random Question : How LONG did your procedure take ?

They wheeled me in at 7:30am sharp and wheeled me out at 8:20am...that was the report from my family.

As I write this note to you my new belly is in bubble heaven. I also have the runs today (TMI I know). Today is day 4 post op. can't wait to have some puréed hot Cereal just not sure what flavorings I'm permitted. Will see my surgeon and NUT on thurs dec 19 if I'm off pain meds by then. Hope the runs isn't worse with purée stage but I'm assuming it will be. Incision pain is tough but nothing compared to the hiatal hernia repair work, I feel it more than anything. May have to extend my leave due to the hernia recovery and not the VSG -- crazy. My surgeon only needed to use 2 medium incisions and 2 tiny ones to get the work done; thank God! See belly Pic below. Already Sick of broth and sugar free Jello (yuck)--- only like room temp water and ice chips -- sf Popsicles are ok if I lick very very slowly. Diet green tea room temp is ok and warm ginger tea is tolerable.

Not sure how much I weigh now or how much I've lost but my family says they already see a loss in my face 4days out. Guess drinking only liquids for 5 days and fasting completely for 1 day will do that lol

Feel Better soon! I pray that our 16-ers are recovering well or waiting patiently.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
