Hi everybody,

I hate to say this, because I feel like such a statistic, but I am going to have to divorce my husband. We've been married

for almost 7 years. We've had our struggles, but it has turned into an abusive relationship that is escalating in violence. I have decided to leave. We don't have any kids. I honestly have tried to save this relationship with everything I could, but now it's time to go. The only problem is, I have no idea about the divorce process. I live in TN. Has anyone been through a divorce with no kids? We don't have a house or anything major to fight over besides maybe appliances. Is it possible to do it yourself without an attorney? Also, I'm worried that he won't sign the papers just to be spiteful. Also, does anyone have an idea how long the process is? I'm hoping to get this over with as soon as possible so I can just start over and heal.

Thank you for you advice in advance!,

Emily

You can go online and find basic forms since there no children or property it doesn't mater if he signs them as long as he served with divorce papers generally he has 30 days to contest and answer then generally it takes 30-45 days after to be final you can usually find an attorney to do papers when there's no children or property for under $500at the very most that includes all filling fees. Sorry but if he's violent it's better to get out before you get hurt

Oh thank you Padlrd!!! I am clueless about a divorce and I just want this mess to be over as quickly as possible!! I was really worried that he would have to sign them. He is very jealous and has convinced himself that I was cheating. I figured he would not sign the papers just to be hateful. I am in full agreement about leaving. He has hurt me for the last time!! I was a very good and faithful wife and he just missed out big time!

I don't have any experience or advice, but I did want to let you know you're in my thoughts and prayers. I'm so proud of you for making a hard decision and doing what's best for you. If you ever need a friend, I'm always available!!!!

Thank you both ladies!! I am going to sign the lease for a new rental today. I'm planning on moving out Saturday. Please pray that it goes safely. I'm not sure how he'll react. I don't know if I should call the police to be there? He never leaves the house anymore without me so I can't do it when he's gone because he's always there, ugh!! Thank you so much! I covet your prayers. This is not anything I thought I'd have to do, but I love myself too much now to stay with such an abusive man.

If you believe he might try to hurt you, then yes, ask the police to escort you there!! If he doesn't fight the divorce, then it should be fairly easy. But if he decides to fight, then you would be better to get an attorney. But since there are no children and no property to fight over, there's not much I dont' think he can do. My ex husband and I used the same attorney! But he didn't fight me. I wish you the best of luck!!

If you fear for your safety please call the police. Let them know ahead of time of the situation and they got you covered.

Praying for a smooth exit!

I'm in MA but when I went through my divorce we had no property or children. I filed and the fee was $230 but I filed a hardship waiver and didn't have to pay anything. Mailed in the papers and got notified of a court date. We went and were granted the divorce, and it was final 90 days later. Altogether from when I filed until it was final, was about 6 months. Couldn't hurt to get some advice from a lawyer if you think he may give you some trouble.

I know that where I live, you go to the court and it's $40 for the papers, you both sign it and turn it back to the court.

Looks like from 2013-2017 divorce will increase. I want to stay married forever on papers. In reality I want to be separated forever. I'm just tired of all the bull shit.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
