Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hi all!! I am an april 3rd bander. I had my first fill about week and a half ago!! I don't feel all that restricted but they set me up with an appt for another fill all ready this wed! Do you think that is to fast ? My doc keeps telling my it is like tuning in a radio. till it is just right. My first fill was only 1cc. I don't know how much my band holds

Hi Angies577:

Your first fill seems to have been 6 weeks after surgery -- which is what my doctor did as well.

The fill amounts are very personalized I believe- it really is what ever feels good for you! Mine was 2.5 total and I left taking very small sips - taking 3 hours to get 10oz in me. My doctor won't do another fill for 6weeks - after the first -- just to let me and my body get use to it- or at least that is his excuse (hahaha). There seems to many different routines that doctors use - some have preop diets, others not. Some have you do liquids, mushies, softfoods in 2 week intervals - others don't, some have you do 2 days liquids, 2 days mushies following a fill, others go right to mushies for 1 day. (go figure?) Your doctor might give smaller first fill so you don't go from eating any and everything to only 3oz every hour, like mine did. Or it was Just Right for you? Did he do it under floro? (sp?) -- Mine was, he filled me to the point nothing got through - then backed it down so just the right amount of speed it took to get down? :phanvan

As far as the size of your band -- look at your wallet band card that you received and tell us the type it says and I am sure one of us can help determine -- or you could call the doctor's office and they will be happy as well to check your chart. They have all that recorded. :)

Mine says INAMED Health - LAGB VG --this is the larger band that holds 10cc's.

Best wishes at your next fill -- hope it is what you are looking for.

Gina

Good Morning Everyone

just checking in to see how eveyone is doing. I was down to 230 this am... so happy about that, at least the scale is moving in the right direction. I am off to the gym for workout #2 for the month. I made a commitment to go every day and aerobics 2-3 times a week on top of that. I'm going to look great and that is all there is to that.

I am going to get my bartending certification next week, I think, so I can get a p/t job while I look for a real job. I know, crazy right? but I only have 3 weeks left of unemployment and no job and I have waitressed and cooked so why not... could be good money.

I get to go for my fill appt on the 12th, very excited about that

Good morning Violets!

I don't know how, why or what........ but I hit a new low today!

The 230's are just on the horizon for me! Gotta catch up with Denise :)

My docs office uses two bands, the 10cm (that holds 4 cc's of fluid) or the VG band that holds 10cc's. I have the 10cm band and my fills are every 4 weeks. Patients that have the VG band can get a fill every 2 weeks.

I am drinking my coffee right now and getting ready to fix a Protein shake.. not really hungry so maybe I do have restriction.

Hope everyone has a great day!

TracyinKS - Just checking in from the June 07 board to see how my fellow KC and Malley patient is doing! :-) Looks like you are doing well. I love your picture progress on your signature - have you shared how you do that? If so can you direct me to the thread, if not do you mind sharing?

thanks,

Missy

Angie- Sounds like going in every other week to get more fills (if you can afford it/need to), is ideal... till you get your sweet spot

TOMORROW IS MY FILL! I'll admit, I saw someone banded over a week after me got their fill yesterday (was it Tracy? can't remember now) and I was just going 'damn it, that's just not fair!' lol.

I am so afraid I'm going to start gaining, because I am eating way too much...and hating myself for it. Still bouncing between 299-300, so that is good, it was 299 this morning again (this is how I do, I bounce between 2-3 numbers for a week and then it introduces a new lower number, repeat).

Today I officially start the gym.. I keep putting it off, and my back still hurts, but.. 4 co-workers and I made a pact, and today we said NO EXCUSES.. so I have to remember my tennis shoes! Going to the dentist soon, now THAT I am scared of.. I have a broken tooth in the back, I don't want a root canal or them to pull it :):D:)

I hate my teeth. I brush 2x a day and floss every night, and yet they are brittle and break. I get it from my dad! He has all veneers, since he was 40. I can't afford that yet.. guess that's my next big plan, have all my teeth capped and be done with it.

I called my surgeon to ask if I need to fast tomorrow, the nurse laughed and said 'there's no need to do that'.. so I said ok! Better for me, fill isn't till 2:30, so I'm goin into work then we leaving around 10:30-11 for the 3 hour drive. I can't wait!!! I still have a big lump under the skin if I push down, I hope that's ok. It's been bugging me only in past 2 days, like it's sore or hurts when I bend.. hasn't bothered me before.. happy thoughts..

I too watched that "Big Medicine" last night and saw it last week too. It is really interesting. I wonder if lap band is something they do. No matter what I think it is a common struggle no matter what procedure you have done.

I am losing weight again, but does anyone at this point feel like this is another thing they will fail at? It is amazing that I feel this way. I feel like I am not going to reach my goal, and I don't really even have one! Just wondering if anyone else feels this way!

Jane

by the way Tracy, I didn't feel any restriction until I ate real food!!

Good Morning Violets,

Laura brought up a good point. I have my fill appointment at 4pm...what do/did you all eat before you appointments?

I've gained 2 pounds, but I weighed myself at the gym this morning. Key word was I WAS AT THE GYM...but I am not happy about 2 pounds. Could it be the ice cream? Oh well...what's a girl to do???

It is so funny how our posts have changed in the two months.

Wonder how our friend Sara is doing?

Bye ladies...please let me know what to eat before fill!

Good Morning! - Looks like everyone is moving along and doing well. I can tell those of you who are still looking forward to fills & restriction....you WILL feel it, I guarantee it! Maybe not right away or it may take 2-3 fills, but you will feel it!! If you recall, my story was much like ShineOn's ...I went for my 2nd fill and they told me most of my 1st (1.5cc) had disappeared; so they filled me to 2cc with thicker (Omnipaque) Fluid. The NP acutally told me that she bet I was back for a slight unfill. I haven't done that yet, but sometimes I think I should. While on our little vacation, I PB'd twice on chicken. So that's a total of 3 times since I got that 2nd fill....and all on chicken. (How does a person live without chicken???) But before I go back for an unfill, I'm living more closely by the rules to see if that helps at all.

What I'm trying to say is, THE BAND IS THERE AND IT WILL WORK!!! After being filled go very slowly. Try risky foods gently and wait a long time between bites before taking another risky bite.

TracyK...yeah, for some reason getting a fill (and going back to fluids?) gets the scale moving for me too.

Oh, and by the way all you sweet girls....thanks for noticing the losses on my pics. I am glad I took those now...they are a motivator!! I wish I had taken my measurements pre-op, but I didn't. In the last month I've lost 5# and 4 inches tho... not bad.

I really love working out. I can't believe i'm saying that. But anyway...CONGRATS TO ALL OF YOU WHO ARE JUMPING ON THE EXERCISE WAGON THIS MONTH!!! You will NOT regret it! Keep it going!

Pamela: My docs office told me to eat whatever I felt like before the fill because after, I would be on mushies.

For those of you who remember...... I have NOT told my boss that I had surgery. I was able to take 2 days of PTO and come back the following monday. Yesterday was my fill and I just told him I was taking a long lunch........

He is 60+ years old and mostly thinks of me as his daughter....

Anyway today he comes in my office and asks me...

Boss "Trace, can I ask you something?"

Me: "I don't know... WHAT?"

Boss "Just tell me, OK?"

Me: "WHAT?!"

Boss: "Trace... are you pregnant?"

Me: "WHAT!?!?!?" <<spit, snort, gasp>>... NO!!!!

Boss "Well Balls I didn't mean to offend you, but you can tell me if you are!"

Me: "NO DAN!! MY CHILDBEARING DAYS ARE BEHIND ME!"

(and here I thought I'd LOST weight!! :) )

I just go home from having my 2nd fill. It went better than last time. I now have 2cc and I can tell I have more restriction. I stopped and got a cup of egg drop Soup. My Dr says nothing to eat or dring after mid-night before the fill and liquids for 24 hours after that.

Good Tuesday afternoon, Violets!~~

Just got back from my 1-wk post-op app't... went fine... I'm doing "great"... 1 more week of liquids (argh!), then on to mushies... I can't believe I'm fantasizing about egg salad! Oh, and I had hoped that because I had my period so wasn't able to take those Lovenox shots yet that maybe I wouldn't have to start now that it's a week later, but no such luck... he wants me to take them anyway... :)

Check out my siggy!! -7lbs this past week, for a total of -29 so far! :clap2: Yay, me!

Bwah ha ha, Tracy... "Are you pregnant?"... :faint:

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
