Hmmm comes to about 475 calories...wowthat just doesn't seem enough....I'm trying to eat foods that have quite a bit of Protein in them, but the calories don't seem to be enough compared to what I used to eat! LOL

Ok does anyone think that I'm eating too much?? ?? I'm on mushies (6 days out) and here is what I had today:

* Breakfast: 1 - 6 oz Lite Yoplait smoothie drink (4g protein)

* Lunch: 1/4 cup low fat cottage cheese & 1/2 cup split pea Soup (12g protein)

* Dinner: 1 scrambled egg with sprinkle of cheese to make moist, 1/4 cup low fat cottage cheese (19g protein)

* 48 oz Fluid (5g protein)

Total protein: 40g (I know, I need more protein! I just can't handle the way those drinks taste and I've tried several so far...) :help:

Denise,

I think it sounds great...I'm no expert, though!!

I am eating about 1,000 calories and trying to make sure it is Protein and Vitamin rich...kinda hard on mushies sometimes!!! We had baked fish and very well-done sauteed onion, summer squash and zuchinni (olive oil to sautee and lemon pepper, garlic salt, basil, and cilantro for flavor). If you want a little extra protein, Carnation Instant Breakfast has a sugar-free mix that I make hot chocolate with in the morning...with the skim milk or calorie countdown milk, it's really reasonable on calories and it's a 13 protein gram treat! I also drink the lemon flavored K2O special K Protein Water on occasion. Not the greatest, but palatable...I get in an extra 5 grams of whey isolate protein.

Denise,

475 calories isn't much...but it's a fine line...if you're not hungry, don't push it, but if you feel hunger at this point (your body IS healing) you need to respond to it. Over the last several days, I have had tuna with light mayo, baked fish, SF pudding (although it seems kinda hard to get down), scrambled eggs, finely chopped pulled pork (a treat - definitely not a habit!), my mom's AWESOME chicken salad finely chopped and spread on crackers, yogurt smoothies, carnation instant breakfast, baked potato, potato Soup, Tomato Soup, sauteed veggies, noodle-less lasagna (baked with Tomato sauce, lowfat ricotta and cottage cheese and sprkinled with parmesan), broth...I'm trying for variety so I won't get burned out like I did on the liquids!!

It took a good 8 days after surgery to even get my appetite and I was on liquids for 10 days pre-op and 14 days post-op. At this point in time, I'm not even the least bit interested in moving to solids...although sometimes my brain wants them! I imagine that my body's cravings will change soon from the other posts I've read!

If you are NOT eating enough, you will not loose weight. Your body NEEDS calories for energy. It will take them from your stored fat, but it also needs you to take in fresh food to get your stored fat out of storage.

I was talking to my neighbor the other day. She was saying how much she watches eating fat free stuff and how she still gains wait.

I'm pretty familiar with the in's and out's of loosing weight. In the past 20 years, I've lost probably 300 pounds. Not that I had 300 to loose, just that, i've taken off pounds 6 significant times in my adult life. Each time the weight came back + about 20%. My 270 is an altime high for me.

Of the 6 times loosing, i've done medical weight loss 3 times, jaw surgery followed by WW, fat gram counting and aerobics, and the best was gestacional diabetes. (I say the best because I had triplets and had a wonderful healthy pregnancy that produced my wonderful babies and 50 pound weight loss after their birth) (I was all baby by the end - only gained 10 pounds being pregnant with them and then it was gone and more).

That was my most educational weight loss. Between learning about infertility and the effects being overweight can have on your hormones and taking insulin shots and eating a very strict carb diet. I learned to feed myself purely for my body - not my mind. Once not pregnant, i went back to old habits and fed my mind.

Instead of babbling, I'll cut to this - everyone pushes every kind of diet there is out there from fat free, to carb free, to miracle pills, to surgery. The one thing they will NOT push is the perfect diet called BALANCE.

Anyone can do it. My nutrionist when I was pregnant put me on the following regimine and I HAD TO FOLLOW IT and for the babies I was awesome.

Breakfast - 30 carbs

snack - 15 carbs

lunch - 45 carbs

snack - 15 carbs

dinner - 45 carbs

snack - 15 carbs

This is what I'm using as my future. I could eat anything as long as I followed those guidelines. I will talk to our nutritionist at my doctors to see if I need to lower those guides a little (since i'm not pregnant), but for one I felt always satisfied because I was always eating.

Also without being pregnant I will add in my other very successful weight loss duration. counting fat grams and aerobics. If I keep under 30 grams of fat per day, I'll loose.

Calories will be 1000 to 1200 per day depending on my activity level. I'm planning on creating a food diary and really getting into this. ONCE I CAN HAVE FOOD.

I may have some bad sneaking habits, but I'm loosing those. And the last place I want to run right now is Taco Bell or KFC for Beans or potatoes. I mad at the fast food places and I'm NOT GOING TO SPEAK TO THEM ANY MORE.........LOL (I've been mad at Kmart at my corner for 4 months now and I haven't returned yet - so I think I can be mad at fast food :) )

Well that's my plan. Glad I finally thought of one.

Thanks for listening !

Tammy,

It sure is easier when you're eating for the babies, isn't it?!?!

Congrats on your trips!! That's awesome!!!

As for fast food, I'm with you!! If I go there, they'll entice me and I'll want to go back to all the bad stuff!! It's so easy to get back into the wrong mindset...I am so happy to have you guys here! I probably sound like a broken record, but I can already tell that this board is going to be a MAJOR instrument in the weight-loss goals my hubby and I have set!

I'll join you in the boycott - but I sure will need support! Fried chicken just sounds sooo goooood (even though I was never a huge fan of it before banding!)

Well, I'm going to have to go to bed...I took pain meds for a Migraine and they hyped me up, but I'm beginning to crash and I want to be sure I'm in my bed when I do!!!LOL

Hey all!!! Sounds like everyone's doing pretty well <img src="http://www.LapBandTalk.com/images/smilies/happy.gif" border="0" alt="" title="" smilieid="60" class="inlineimg" /> I'm hungry again now also. Was nice for awhile to not be hungry anymore. At least I'm onto mushies now. But I seem to be stuck at 25lbs <img src="http://www.LapBandTalk.com/images/smilies/frown.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Frown" smilieid="2" class="inlineimg" /> I have my first fill scheduled for 5/23. Keep up the good work violets!!! <img src="http://www.LapBandTalk.com/images/smilies/grin.gif" border="0" alt="" title="" smilieid="57" class="inlineimg" /><br /> <br /> Shawnna<br /> <br />

ihomeschool- that would be AWESOME. I warn you now though, we're in a rented house atm, and it is a POS for a kitchen. THey bought portable oven so its in the middle of the kitchen blocking 1/2 the cabinets.. its so stupid. Our new house will be done being built in July so it would be much nicer then. But I wouldn't turn down the offer LOL!!!

Have you guys ever seen that show about the guy who eats NOTHING BUT MCDONALD'S for 30 days???? It's called SUPERSIZE ME.

He made a point near the end and it sticks with me (not that I heeded the point, but it still sticks with me and maybe now is the time to use it).

Fast food and the Dairy Industry have this pack in regards to cheese. Cheese can be addicting to some people. They use cheese to keep us coming. They actually got Subway to hop on board the cheese bandwagon with their new sandwiches that are "melts". This offers the consumers no chance to say NO cheese and puts more money in their pockets. Then when you take that knowlege and look at what KFC started with their "bowl" you know it's a conspiracy. What the heck is cheese doing at the KFC???????

Watch it or look for it on the web if you ever get the chance.

Sorry Ive not posted much, my head has been stuck in revision books, on pharamacology, pharmokenetics, dynamics, ateology...blah blah blah...its a good sleep inducer I've found!!

Launas...I used to drink old perculiar when I was preggers (that was like guiness!!LOL) hey go careful on that stuff girl its high in the calories stakes.....LOL...we used to give it to patients on the wards years ago to get their (so called :) ) Iron levels up...hehehe....

ihomeschool4....you poor thing going through that, as well as having the band, I really hope you feel better real soon. Prayers to ya xxx

Goonabefree...I saw that documentary to, supersize me, gosh by the end of it he was almost killing himself on that stuff, it was scary at the damage it did. But as you were all discussing, I used to pull in at those places and get a drive-by-meal and eat it in the car so no one saw me, sometimes before a meeting, I must of stank of bugers!!!

Teach...LOL I love your ticker! It made me laugh!!!

Pam...I know what you mean about not thinking were big either, I also kind of deluded myself, I was not that 'bad' even though I am the biggest woman in the company (the others are all 'sticks') what really made me face my demons was when I started getting sleep apneona, and after 6 + months of that and difficulty breathing (huffing and puffing walking) I knew (and so did my hubby) realise that if I didnt do something asap, I was going to be in 'BIG' trouble. Thing is, its facing our problems initially thats hard, then the realisation dawns, then its like 'why the heck didnt I do this sooner' duhhhhh?????

Terry....you lucky duck getting your fill this week, I cant wait for you to tell us how it was for you, (in detail please!! :D ) Mines not till Saturaday after next.

I know what you mean guys about the 'starving factor' beacuse Im facing that too.....and goodies....last night....I kept singing the word 'Alcohol' to a tune I know.....Sophie thought I was turning into a father Ted figure...'DRINK....DRINK....DRINK' gawd I could of murdered one last night....but I'm trying not to drink now (I used to every day after work) now I'm trying only to have any booze only if we go out for dinner, or friends over etc (although I did have some white wine last Sunday, and promptly overselpt on the Mon am!).

Smoking :) well, I am ashamed to say I am still smoking, the doc put me on those pills called zyban, 7 days later, I felt like my right side of my neck was going to explode, it felt like a artery was bulging and it was sooooooo painful, so I stoped taking them. I havent gone back to my GP yet, Ive decided to get this ***@!!! exam over 1st, then try other methods, so Im a bit of a failure in this so far.

Well, have a great Wednesday folks :D

Lots of Love

Sara xxx

Hello Everyone,

My Band Doctor wants his patients to stay eating like Weight Watchers or Phase3 of South Beach. I was off and on WW forever and they have a great website with free receipes and message boards (community boards only).

I thought it might help with light recipes. Plus you can always get used WW cookbooks at half price book stores or Amazon.com.< /p>

Thanks Terri- Good Luck with your fill! I get mine on May 17 and I cannot wait!! I know it will all work out.

I guess being hungry and PMSing at the same time is not a good combo! I haven't had my period since the surgery- I had to go off the pill for surgery and can't get back on till I get it again. Main reason for pill is to fix irregular periods so here I sit!

Kat- You and Rick are in my prayers.

Thanks all for support!

Morning everyone-

I am starting to get to the point where I am hungry 4 times a day, still having very small portions, few tbs, but what comes next? increase portion size? then bandsters hell? I hope to have my fill appt tomorrow but it won't be until June 1 - at least. I am doing well, I am back to loosing - 4lbs since saturday when I started adding food in and it is that time of the month - and typically i'm good for 5lbs with that.

My chili is still cooking in the crock pot and it smells so good, I left to bring my son to the sitter and go to my first class and when i walked in ... YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM I don't think i should cook like that, because that is just head hunger.

Here is the question of the day - what about coffee, I was told Decaf only - is there a real reason for this? I am dying - I really depend on that and was fine when I didn't have to get up and get moving, but I am finding this week now that i'm back to where i need to be I am exhausted and just want 1 cup.

Jennifur: I am allowed coffee (regular) I even had it in the hospital after my barium swallow, but I know other doctors don't let you have it for 6 weeks because it causes "gut motility".

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
