Now that I am the insurance provider ..before he was and refused for me to do the surgery..he let me know really quick today I was taking the "easy way out".while I some what understand this mentality ..I just don't understand why he can see how important this is to me? Omg.. I cannot tell you how many times my husband told me this!!! He is thinner and was telling me that I need to eat better and exercise. I told him it would be much easier for me once I have lost some initial weight. I have to admit that he is on board more or less now that he has seen my level if commitment these past two weeks on the preop liquid diet. I have lost 12 lbs so far.. Surgery is tomorrow. If you have a good relationship he will eventually get on board just keep explaining that this is NOT easy.. It's life changing. You are doing this for you.. And you need his support! I am sure he is worried that something will happen. Assure him that you want to be healthy and happy. Keep us posted!

joy I bet he is more afraid of something happening to you or going to go wrong then anything, Maybe more than he even knows, He is lashing out and saying "easy way out" to kinda get under your skin, instead of saying he's scared. Just let him know that you love him and need his support and that he will see how hard you will be working with this.

Wishing you the very best.

Jny I Will be praying for you and sending you healing thoughts.for your surgery tomorrow.

Nope ladies this is no way an EASY WAY OUT.

I was the same way when my wife decided to go with surgery. At first I was just worried about her having major surgery then some thoughts of her getting all sexy and leaving I thinks it's just normal for guys. She's been post hope for about 7 months and everything is all good she inspired me to go through with it and tomorrow I have my first appointments with the nurse and diet person

I think that anyone who has never struggled with their weight seems to be the most "judgmental".the only people who know I going to do this is my hubby &my oldest daughter ,I am a mom of 4.my daughter is super supportive. My dad would flip..due to worry,my in laws would just tell me how stupid I was..and just lose it naturally..easy comming from a mom n law who has been tiny her whole life.i am 5'8 and never know what it was like to be in her shoes..I just want to be happy and healthy in my own skin without worrying about people's comments ..this is why I have chosen to be selective about who I tell!

I am a little over a month out and there hasn't been one easy thing yet! This has been the hardest thing I've been through. I've cried, I've been mad, I've even wondered "what did I do." This lifestyle change is very emotional! Everyone is different and each of us have our own story but I'm sure everyone will tell you it's definitely NOT an easy way out!

Good luck on your journey!

My sisters thought the same thing but after they are with that first month, they see the real truth. How is it easy to change your entire life and everything you were use to?

On my joy, my husband is the same way. He also never wants to hear about the subject and my son is to young to understand. So I am still going to my classes and doing what I need to do. So you are not alone!

Thanks Sissy! I understand in a sense their side but its so irritating when people assume u r weak .i guess when it comes to food I am! He just isn't open minded to anything he doesn't agree with or understand ..and that is frustrating! I'm hoping when I reach my goal weight oneday when the surgery actually happens he will see me happy !thanks what I'm banking on anyway;-)

Joy my husband thought the same thing. I am post op now, and have lost 22 lbs he never has asked how many pounds. He really thinks I could have done this on my own. Of course he has never had a weight problem, and has no idea how being over weight messes with your head. Things are almost back to normal but I wish he was he was totally onboard with this because I am so happy.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
