Gastric Band

Recommended Posts

You had the lap band? Idk how many people will know the answer to this since 99% of us are now RNY gastric bypass. I don't think the band is necessarily supposed to be temporary?

I'm sorry I wasnt clear. I had RNY gastric bypass. I meant gastric band as in the Velcro thing you have to wear over your stomach. If you don't know what I'm talking about, I'll post a pic.

I believe what you are talking about is an abdominal binder. I haven't had surgery and my surgeon didnt mention anything about wearing one. Just like the diet progression I guess every surgeon is a little different.

The hospital I was at the binder aka (girdle) basically a tummy holder inner type thing, was optional. I requested it because I felt my skin was tearing off and it held it up nicely. I used this for 1 week. Per choice

When I awoke from surgery they already had it on me but told me I can take it off whenever! I was also told that when I had my gall bladder removed too

My doc said it was for my comfort only. He said there is no medical reason for it. Some people feel better wearing it is all. I didn't wear it most of the time, bit did find it very helpful in the car atleast for the first week or two.

Ugh this option wasn't even presented to me. I spent the first 2 weeks post op holding my left side up because letting my stomach hang was excruciating

Everyone is different. My nurse put one on me and the next day my dr got upset bc he didn't want me to wear it. He said only for opens, not lap. In prior surgeries it was 4 weeks.

My surgeon also got upset when he saw I was wearing it in bed. He said it was only to help me be more comfortable while walking. I used it for about a week after I got home.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
