I have a friend that got her surgery two weeks ago today!

She has been one of those that has been miserably starving. Today she was able to start her soft foods, and do she decided to have a scrambled egg. She's freaking out cause she made 3 eggs and ate them all, slowly, and never felt full until after the third egg.

Our question is - how can she eat so much already and experience no pain? Can she stretch out her pouch so soon and on 3 eggs? What should she do to ensure she isn't starving all the time but not eat too much? Any suggestions on what to eat and how much? Is this normal? She's worried her pouch has failed and she will fail miserably!

Please please help!! Thanks

This how thing is so scary and my surgery is June 7, so I'm not able to answer her cause she started this journey first!!

I never felt hungry or full. I'm a little over 2 months out and I do feel hungry but after a few bites I feel like I'm very very full. I would say best advice for her would be to make sure she is measuring all her food.< /p>

Tell her to be careful....that she could rupture her pouch. My doctor told me I'm not suppose to eat over a Quarter cup for the first 12 weeks not only for weight loss but to let the pouch heal properly.

Thanks for all your advice! I will pass it on to her! You just backed up what I was telling her, but sometimes you can't hear it from a friend.

"Starving" is sometimes more mental than physical. She definitely needs to discuss it with her doctor and he/she may refer her to the psychologist. There is a LOT of help and support available. Most of these folks have a lot of experience and they can help if she let's them. There is absolutely nothing to be embarassed about!! She isn't alone in her journey and she certainly won't be the first person they have seen with this challenge.

She is too embarrassed to call the dr

The only embarrassing thing is to not ask questions. The first 2 - 3 weeks I called everyone in my Drs. office so frequently that when I stopped they started calling me! No such thing as a stupid question especially when you're talking about your health and your life....tell your friend to join our group so that we can help and support them also with our encouraging words

Its important to have a good relationship with your surgeon. I was wondering did she eat 3 eggs before surgery? I haven't had eggs since diet but before 2 was enough for me scramble or plain on whole wheat toast & only 1 slice of ham. Sometimes I think to my self it must be the fried food that made me fat & lack of exercise cuz I'm not lazy but I love fried food & rice.

I hope your friend calls her surgeon. She took the step to get the help she needed for surgery, why not get the continued help to be a success?

Any way our brain sends us signals that we are hungry but it is also sends the same signal that we are thirsty. We can confuse our thirst for hunger. So eat the 1/2 to 1 egg and wait 30 min, then drink Water. And see if you are still getting the hungry feeling. Try more Water if you are.

Good luck to your friend & congrats on making a great life style change for your self. Having a close friend to lean on & for support is the best!

That is why they tell you to always measure your food and never eat more than they tell you will fit probably between 1/4 and 1/2 cup! Also eat slowly and don't drink when you eat if I drink with my food I will be able to eat more than I'm supposed to!

It's funny because I've actually tried eating and drinking at the same time just to see if I could & it hurts me to do it..thankfully I won't have to worry about breaking that habit my body did it for me! :)

I'm really sorry but I'm scratching my head over this one.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
