Oh excuse me i didnt know the food police worked here!

My friends at work laugh at me when ever I eat cause they know I'll eat 4 bites and I'll be full. No one really gets on me about the way I eat. I can order bread, potatoes (just cause they come with the meals) and they don't say anything cause they know that I know I can't eat it. Sometimes I just take a bite and I'm fine. I find it interesting how people on here can be more judgmental then my own friends. You know what I'm not perfect. No one is. I don't deprive myself of food. If I want a cookie I'll have a bite. If I want chips I'll have a couple. It would be worse to not have that stuff and then go crazy over board when you finally do.

Oh yes, I just had this incident yesterday when going out with friends.

Been happening alot around people and I'm just 2 and a half weeks post-ops

After them stuffing their faces with fatty foods infront of my face, I wanted to order a chocolate drink and they kept on bitching at me saying "We can't let you order that you'll ruin your surgery" Claiming they 'care' and 'We know you and your self control so we to make sure you don't f**k up the operation and stay fat'

Its especially ironic when people do this while stuffing their faces with pizzas and french fries.

Can I poke their eyeballs out with a fork now?

Yesterday I made a small salad at the bar for lunch but my coworkers talked me into getting a bigger pre made 1 that was cheaper. I said I didnt know if I could eat it all but I would eventually finish it off. I was grabbing a 2nd small helping from the big salad when my coworker goes *Oh see-aren't u glad that u didn't get that little salad? You're going back for 2nds.* The 2 helpings I had were small. Either she didnt see that or just wanted to be messy.

That's just one of the reasons I dint tell nobody about my surgery. Dont want it hear comments or suggestions from nobody.

i can't stand when i hang out with my friends (i'm 2 weeks post op and still on liquids) and they get food and are like "is it okay if we eat this in front of you?" it drives me CRAZY. they act like i'll never be able to eat anything again. for example my friend got sushi the other day and brought it over and he was like "sucks you won't be able to eat this anymore" and i just went off on him (thanks raging hormones). it's tough to explain that eventually i'll be able to eat whatever i want' date=' but it's just a matter of what i CHOOSE to eat. i get touchy with this subject haha![/quote']

I would say something like'actually I think it sucks that you can eat it so mindlessly' ...and maybe ad a little discusted like just to prove my point.

I have a big family, and it has become a joke that "moist meat rules!" Because in the beginning I was so careful to order something moist that I knew would agree with my new stomach. Now I find that they are giving all the credit for my weight loss to my surgery, as if I had nothing to do with my success. Very frustrating!

In restaurants I always ask for my uneaten food to be wrapped up, and head the waiter off at the pass by saying something like it was great, but I just got too full to fast, or some such excuse. I've never gotten any flack or looks.

One of the things I hate most is when people see me plate and say, "Oh I didn't know you could eat that, or oh I didn't know you were allowed to eat that" I'm so glad that I have built in food detectives!! If I do eat something or have something that in not supposed to....it's none of NO ONEs business!!! BTW I haven't eaten anything I'm not supposed to, I had 1 egg and a link sausage for mid-morning!

I guess because just about everyone knows I had surgery everybody is curious as to what I'm eating....

Does this happen to you?

Kim

Sleeved 8/8/13

Down 37lbs

Exact reason why I have not told anyone at work! I don't want people hovering over me or watching me eat. That is my pet peeve is to have someone watch me eat.

Omg. And the looks I get from waiters when I eat a half a cup of Soup. "Is everything ok?" Yes damnit! Let me live! Lol

Haha, this happened to me the other day. I didn't eat much of the soup so she thought I just didn't like it!

When I was 3 weeks post op this little b***h at work saw me sitting in the break room with my hot chocolate. She says 'I wish i could trick my insurance company into thinking I needed weight loss surgery so I could drink chocolate all day and still lose weight."

I was like oh hell no. First of all, it's Proti Diet Protein hot chocolate my surgeon gave me. Second of all, screw you! Yes I have weight to lose but at least I'm not stuck with your mean nasty personality!

Some people's kids, seriously

Last night we went out for Chinese food..My husband and a friend of mine..It was pleasant but both of them looked at my plate with ravenous eyes..Waiting, ready to slam down the remains....

My husband got there first and a loud discussion started between the two of them...I just sat there with my arms folded and watched as the both of them argued over who was getting my left overs....

I am so used to my husband eating my leftovers...I never even got to say I am done...He just reached over and took my plate..

I said how do you know I am done with that...And my friend said..come on little bird we know...lol

I think they are both nuts.....

That would really bother me! I would probably refuse to let them do it just on principle! And don't you like to have leftovers for the next day?

It happens every single time I eat....At first at the restaurants I would order something small and the waiters would ask me why I did not like the food...I would take that leftovers home and my hubby would take them to work the next day...Then he told me to order a regular sized meal and eat what I want and he would look after the rest...Well he certainly has done his part let me tell you.....

He is a string bean and always has been I think he looks at this as a second helping of food...It doesn't bother me much it is I wish he would wait until I hand him my plate instead of just picking off of it what he wants and then I get irritated and hand him my plate....SO at first I was taking leftovers home...now he just eats them there and no one notices that I have not eaten much.....It just seems to be the way it is......lol

I'm just out of surgery 2 weeks, but already it has started. I haven't told everyone and their mother that I had the surgery, so most comments, I know they are coming from a place of love from people who want me to succeed. I'm sure once more people know, I will have to tell people to shove off. :)

i can't stand when i hang out with my friends (i'm 2 weeks post op and still on liquids) and they get food and are like "is it okay if we eat this in front of you?" it drives me CRAZY. they act like i'll never be able to eat anything again. for example my friend got sushi the other day and brought it over and he was like "sucks you won't be able to eat this anymore" and i just went off on him (thanks raging hormones). it's tough to explain that eventually i'll be able to eat whatever i want, but it's just a matter of what i CHOOSE to eat. i get touchy with this subject haha!

I have a good friend who is very thin, and on a couple occasions she's asked if she could eat with me, and I tell her, "I love you, but no you can't." She laughs and then goes and eats on her own. Where I'm at right now, I know I couldn't handle watching her eat pizza while I'm still on full liquids! Eventually we'll eat together again, but not right now. Don't be afraid to tell people "no"! If they love you, they will understand.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
