Recommended Posts

October 1 is my day. I need support right now because I'm having negative thoughts. I need this to live a better life. I have been in the 250 pound range for 3 years, but been battling for 10 years. I have never shared my unhappiness about my weight in public like this. I am only 5'4". High cholesterol , hypertension, and two points from being diabetic!!!! So what is my deals with my fears now? I am excited but so nervous. So many mix emotions. SO grateful for this site because I feel like a have an extended family. Any St. Louis October 1 sleeve with Dr. Morales?

Take a deep breath and pray. You will be fine! I wish it was me. I have to wait till Dec or Jan. I have had to deal with diabetes for three years now and it's still not under control. So glad you can have the surgery before the diabetes set in. I'm praying for a speedy recovery for you!

Hi Chass,

Your story sounds very similar to mine. I have battled my weight since I was an adolescent. And I've been over 200 for years. Right now I'm 255 and on a 5'2" frame that sucks. For many years I would tell myself, yes, I'm fat, but I'm healthy. Then 4 years ago I had to get on high cholesterol meds. Then I hit 40 and here comes the high blood pressure meds. And I've been diagnosed as pre diabetic. It all caught up with me :(. Knowing my family history with heart issues, the high blood pressure diagnosis was really my last straw.

I am scared of the surgery because I've never been in the hospital. But I know this is my chance to finally take control over my life and make a difference.

I know you're scared - I have no doubt that right before surgery I'm going to be a wreck. But you know you're doing the best thing for you and your health. Take care - and know we'll all be here keeping you in our thoughts and prayers!

I am 5'3 & 1/2 and yes the 1/2 matters!????. Weighed 240+ I had surgery May 15 and have loss over 75 ibs! It has been so worth it. I bought a size 12 dress for a funeral a few weeks ago. It was baggy when I put it on Saturday! I am working out and doing things I haven't in many years. You are about to walk into your healing! Go get it Girl!

Hi Chass, its normal to feel that way. You are going to be just fine. In couple months from now you are going to look back and think why I didn't do this earlier. You are going to love the change. Tomorrow is going to be 11 weeks for me and I am so happy for my surgery.

Good luck to you.

:)

Hi Chass. I'm still in the process of "applying for" the surgery so I'm not in the same boat as you yet. However, I wonder if some of the fear and nervousness is coming from the fact that this is such a HUGE decision and a life changer. Even though you were struggling with health issues and weight, it was still familiar territory. This surgery and what comes after is not. I think the fear may be a reaction to that. It's your body processing and it's natural.

That being sad, I encourage you to embrace the decision, breath, and cry/scream/cry again if you need to just to release some of the emotion into the atmosphere and out of your head. And, I would say, use your support system. Get a couple of hugs in and let people support you in real life as well as in virtual world.

That's my two scents. Good Luck!!! You'll do fine.

R

Hi! I am two weeks and one day away from mine and I feel like I am in the same boat! I'm 27 with some very similar health issues in the same weight range. I just attended my last class before surgery and it's just starting to hit me that this is really happening. You will do great tomorrow, have some Decaf tea to calm your nerves and just try to relax. Good Luck :)

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
