Questions regarding pain

Recommended Posts

Darcy, I think you should tell him what you think. If you want an EGD, he should listen to your input. It's your body, and you are a nurse, and knowledgable about the procedures. It's a scary thing to go to a doctor who is not very familiar with the band. I hate that your surgeon makes you feel like you can't bother him, he's been very well paid for his services. It just ticks my clock when I hear about doctors who are unavailable. You are a very patient patient, I would be in their face!

"You are a very patient patient, I would be in their face!"

I gotta disagree, Wink. Cuz I feel like I'm at their mercy. If I piss of my doctor, then what? I feel like I have no option other than patience. Scary.

I have to agree with you on that Lisa... I am afraid to speak up most of the time...

I did call them... this afternoon... JoAnne was not able to get a hold of Dr. Chua today... she said she will sit on him tomorrow and ask him what testing he would like to be done. I told her it was better her than me... I'm still pretty heavy and he's a fairly small man. He is just too busy for a needy girl such as myself I guess.

All I know is that I am tired of having a belly ache... and that is for doggone sure! I mowed half of the lawn today and I was just plain nauseated by the time I quit! Maybe I have a hairball in there from all of the fur babies in this house!

You know what I think? Many women will know what I'm talking about. Any of you girls know how some men will sort of walk on you until you stand up to them? And suddenly after she has stood her ground, Bamm , the relationship takes a change. That's because he respects her after he finds out that she's not his doormat. That's what I'm talking about! These doctors who are so full of themselves, just need to learn that their patients need respect. They are here only because we need their SERVICES. That is the key word! Stand up to those arrogant suckers! I'm in a mood today, don't mess with me!

Hey ya'll, I don't mean to sound all hostile and harsh, I just can't stand arrogance from doctors, and I really feel badly for all of you who have been shunned and are in need of care.

I , too, was intimidated by doctors at one time. When I started working in the dental profession, I began to realize that we are here to be of service to our patients, without them the doctor is nothing. Changes your perspective.

Neicy, I'd have an entirely different outlook if my doctor was in this country. I'd be mean as hell, which I've done before. But when we're Americans trying to contact Mexico, there's not much we can do but stay sweet and sappy. Darcy, Dr. Chua is in Mexico, right?

Darcy, I feel your pain but I also think you need to get your ass back to the ER because the kind of pain you're describing shouldn't go on any longer. I'd drag you there myself if I were near by. I can understand that they turned you away once, but put on the drama babe. When the doctor touches your belly, scream in his ears. Put on the Scarlett O'Hara and drop to the floor. Get noticed. I don't like this game any more - you've been in pain too long. At least when I was sick and infected, I wasn't in pain. Sure, it was uncomfortable, but the pain was minimal. Now you've got me plain ol worried. No more lawn mowing! Take it easy until you have answers, k?

I totally agree, Neicy. It is US who pay for their houses, their cars, their trips to Jamaica. Sometimes, they forget that...

We are at the Mexico docs mercy, but obviously your doctor has no mercy. I, like you, took the chance by going to MX. for surgery, I knew that risk going in, but I've been lucky so far. I feel for you, Lisa.

Darcy, girl you are worrying me too. Please don't try to ignore pain. It is your body's way of telling you to pay attention because something is wrong. There is no benefit in being long suffering. Insist that they find the cause of your pain. I bet you were very sweet and polite when you were there before, because that's how you are. Sometimes you have to be insistant to get the care you need. I wish I could be there to help you, I'd get their attention. (in a very classy and ladylike way!)

Nope Lisa... He's in Milwaukee...lol. He is one of the most experienced bariatric surgeons in Wisconisin... unfortunately... that also makes him one of the busiest as well. I saw him for my consult and right before surgery and will probably never see him again until the big Christmas party bash. He really is the sweetest most soft spoken and gentle man... however... his busy practice and distance from my home make for difficult aftercare if a problem crops up.

Hopefully they will call me with what the plan is tomorrow. I know that something isn't right. Don't worry... if something gets worse I will haul my butt back into the ER. Until then... I just will wait and worry and post pictures of my fur babies.

I still have half a lawn that needs a mowing... LISA??? Ya comin over to take care of that for me???? Just think... a cross country rise on the ole Harley!

I just got back from my Harley lesson. I really didn't want to do it, but if you don't get right back on the horse....

So my hands are all shaky now and I keep trying to click my mouse with my left foot but then realize there's no mouse or clutch under my desk. I rode up and down the block five times making 10 u-turns in my Pull-ups, Mom! And I didn't fall or kill anyone... actually got it out of first and second gear tonight. Darcy, I'd feel safer riding a lawn mower to Wisconsin that that beast! It will probably take me 6 months before I have the courage to go around the block instead of just up and down it... then there's busy streets, traffic lights, stop signs... and my worst fear, other vehicles!

Darcy, what in the world are you doing mowing the yard? Hey, it'll be there tomorrow (or whenever someone does it). You need to get on the horn and let your surgeon's office know that you are in pain. Chances are if you end up in an ER, they won't know what to do for you. The weekend's fast approaching. Please get an answer before then.

Well... this is just dandy...

So... I called AGAIN and was politely told... that they are working on it. I couldn't help it... I started crying. I told her I thought I had been very patient... that I am not able to eat or drink without pain... that I can't sleep and that this is obviously not normal. Again... she told me that the problem is being worked on. I am left to wonder... why it would take three days to find out what tests the surgeon would like to order???? So... it has been 2 hours since my last call.

I called my PCP and he is out of town for the week...

On a positive note... I called Dr. Kemmerling's office ( A bariatric surgeon in Green Bay) and asked if he would be willing to take over my care. Mary... the person that handles the bariatric part of his practice was wonderful. I am not even his patient and she took the time to discuss my concerns with the RN and and called me back IMMEDIATELY and said... this should be taken care of today. She said that she would talk to Dr. Kemmerling and ask him if he would take me on with a referral from Dr. CHua. She encouraged me to call my PCP... I did... no go. She also offered to call Dr. CHua's office. Without knowing if they will take me on, I am too afraid for her to call and rock the boat.

I am not in severe pain unless I eat... but darn it... I get hungry! So... I've had a Protein shake today and warm tea. Here I sit... again... waiting for somebody to call me back.

Going to take a hot shower... and hopefully they will call before I leave for the support group meeting...

Darcy

Well, this sounds very positive to me. Hopefully Kemmerling will take you on. And I sure hope his office can get ahold of Dr. Chua directly. As you know, sometimes doctors respond more immediately to other doctors. It shouldn't be that way, but it is. Please let us know what they are able to do for you.

Nancy

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
