Damn..... Seems like I pissed people off just because I voice my opinion. When I ate the damn wonton... I took the meet out and had the noodle!!! I believe it has the same consistency of applesauce which is the next phase that is just a few days away!!! Your so right.... I will take the advice of my surgeon! I do thank the people that actually gave advice in a nice way instead of jumping my ass because I questioned something.

*meat..

Your stomach cannot tell you you are hungry any more. The part that used to do that is gone. You are dealing with head hunger and you are not starving. This is a tool and you need to learn to use it properly. If you cheat this soon on, where will you be four months from now?

My doctor said you have a sweetspot of the first 6 months where weight will just drop off pretty much if you follow the plan. He said it will be tough but don't get to the six month mark wondering what if I had done this or had not done that?

Don't sabotage your success this early in the game.

Laura Ven and Lipstick Lady - if I should ask, 5 days post-op if I can have cheez whiz and crackers, please feel free to bash the hell out of me, and I would not even require that you be nice about it!! :)

Was I reading that wrong? All she was asking is if there are different post-op plans out there, which clearly there are (just as there are different pre-op plans). While I agree that jumping to wontons probably isn't the best move at this point, it is for her to decide, and I think everyone who responded recommended she talk to her doc. Is there really a need for the harshness and sarcasm?

That's exactly what I was asking!!! I was curious to see if others had moved into phases more quickly than the Dr told them. With Medical advice, they were allowed too!! I plan on calling my Dr. Thanks for understanding!! I will never again ask questions on here due to the sarcasm!! Good luck to everyone but it seems that I will stick to my own support system!!!

Eeeeeek! Last I checked, applesauce will go through a strainer but wonton wrappers won't. I'd love the name of your Chinese restaurant so I can avoid it.

No one was "jumping your ass", you read that into it yourself. Don't think that people don't care about others here, you old be VERY wrong about that. If you are endangering yourself by making bad choices, people are going to stand up and say so. Personally, I would much rather that then be enabled to make risky decisions.

And one other thing, I was told no bread or noodles or rice for a long time because at the very least, they will expand in your stomach and could cause major distress. The only carb thing that is on the list after a month is saltines since they melt away when eaten.

You were looking for someone to tell you it's ok to ignore your surgeons instructions. Sorry you didn't find that. We aren't doing you any favors by enabling you. But that's how we all got here by not following our good sense concerning our diets. Just be careful.

Wontons are Pasta and most plans don't allow Pasta until at least 6 weeks. As someone said, if you feel you really need to get off the liquid diet, I might ask your RD or doctor about doing yogurt, SF pudding, etc. My liquid diet did not include those things and I stuck to it, because I didn't want to develop a leak. I know that it's stressful and that's why you are probably lashing out at people here who are just trying to help you. I remember crying about 1 week post-op while I was drinking my Protein hot chocolate and I could hear my husband crunching tortilla chips for what seemed like 3 hours (it was probably about 10 minutes). And I'm not someone who cries easily. I just wanted to CHEW. But I also knew that I just had major surgery and going off plan wasn't an option.

This is an amazing gift you have been given and now isn't the time to experiment. I know it's tough, but please try to hang in there and follow your surgeon's advice. It's not like "cheating" on a regular diet or even a pre-op plan--it can be literally life and death. It's great that you ate the wonton and you were fine, but next time you might not be so lucky--so I would make sure there isn't a next time like that, especially less than 1 week post op. It might help if you are having head hunger to go to a support group or seek out some counseling.

Wishing you all the best. This time will go more quickly than you think.

I don't believe I was the one lashing out!! I believe that people were lashing out on me!! I was just asking if people moved into the next stage faster than planned with medical consent!!

I was just simply asking and it seems that people think I'm going to eat a can if cheese whiz or something. Lol

I will be just fine without the negativity.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
