I am exactly 2 wks PostOp today. My doctor put me on pureed food on day 3. Which is going well. I had my first post-op follow-up appt yesterday and all is going well so far. Was told that I could move to the soft food phase in 2-3 weeks if I am eating at least 1/4 cup of pureed food. But, I am starting to have some wishful dreams of salad and a good cup of coffee. I did wean myself off of caffeinated coffee before surgery - but, still deeply enjoyed that 1 cup of Decaf first thing in the morning. I think I read somewhere that salads might not be in my future ever again - too hard to digest. Has anyone had a salad at some point and been OK? Also, do any of you drink decaf coffee?

Ask your doctor -- I was allowed coffee a week after surgery, but had to wait over 4 months for salad.< /p>

I drink Decaf everyday,,, I count it as part of my Water for the day and i drink it iced too...sometimes with unflavored Protein . I do eat salad but since I need to get protein in first its never alot of it. Do ask your doctor cause they are all so different with there rules.. :P

it continues to amaze me the difference in protocol for post-op diets...as for coffee, I had been told pre-op that I wouldn't be able to ever drink caffeinated coffee post-op; however, since then my NUT has permitted it...I could not have coffee at all the first two weeks post-op but could have Decaf after two weeks...at four weeks, I could have regular coffee..I have been drinking regular coffee daily since four weeks post-op with no problems

as for salad, at about 4 weeks out, I was allowed to eat it as tolerated, but my NUT doesn't recommend it until several months out--not necessarily because of tolerance with the sleeve but because it fills your sleeve but doesn't provide much nutritional value and can take up room that is needed for your lean, dense Proteins....for that reason I rarely have more than one or two bites of salad with a meal

I was told to wean off of coffee before surgery. I was also told I shouldn't have any kind of coffee after surgery, including Decaf because it is very acidic. I think they request 3 months coffee free because they want people focusing on Water intake. (64 oz. a day.)

I will do my best to "follow doctor's orders", but I will miss it for a while!

I was told I could never have caffeine again. I do occasionally drink coffee, though it really doesn't sit right, and it does dehydrate. I do drink a lot of tea, hot and cold. But, again, I was told no. I would not drink coffee so soon, just because you have a hard enough time to get all the nutrition that you need at this point. I did start drinking iced coffee Protein Shakes, like Chike and Big Train. That way I was able to get the flavor, caffeine fix and lots of Protein. My dr. said yes to salads and veggies after about 6-8 weeks, but here's the catch: you need the protein first. I love veggies and as my WL slowed around 9 mos. out, at the same time I was really into veggies and got away from the protein. I just had my 1st year check up and the nut reminded me of the importance of always eating protein first. 5 days back on the protein focus, and I'm dropping weight again. So, my advice is to continue to think protein first (though I love my veggies). It definitely keeps you fulling longer and promotes healthy loss. Congrats on your surgery! It is a wonderful experience.

I have been allowed Decaf coffee from the time I came home from the hospital. I am allowed one cup per day of regular coffee if I want it (and I do!) I've been eating small salads since about a month out. And when I say small, I mean only a bite or two. I just took it slow to see if anything hurt me. Nothing has so far. I'm supposed to have Protein first, so salad is not a big part of my diet, but I have craved it a lot and when I do, I have a couple bites. My sleeve is really small and even at almost 6 months, I'm unable to eat more than an ounce to and ounce and a half anyway.

I'm 2 months post op and I have started drinking regular coffee occasionally. I could have Decaf coffee pre and post op. In fact, in the hospital after surgery, that was part of the meals they gave me. I have recently started eating salads and raw veggies. I'm fine with them as long as I chew well. I agree with everyone that we need our Protein, but we also need our veggies (as long as you tolerate them and they are on your food plan). My plan allowed for salad at week 6 and raw veggies at week 8.

I was given regular caffeinated coffee in the hospital the day after surgery, and have drank it everyday since, I am now 7 months post op, never had a problem with it, now since caffeine is a natural diuretic I do not include it in my liquid intake numbers and for that matter on days when I drink more coffee I will increase my Water for the day to make up for the caffeine. As to salads I was aloud to try them if I wanted at 5 weeks post op, didn't actually try them till about 2 months, had no problems but am not a big salad eater so don't eat much of them. Good Luck.

Yes, but it never gained my love like before. Once in a great while I enjoy it but fills me up before I get my Protein in. 3 years out

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
