September Sleevers...! Come on in and chat!

I'm at 5 weeks and solids are hit-or-miss but always disturbing. I have been in real pain with some, and also the food tends to shoot back up into my throat (not my mouth, but close). I went to the doctor for this because I was really worried that this was how my life was going to be...awful! He said that this problem wasn't usual, but it is fairly common, and that it typically resolves by 3 months out or sooner. The longest he's seen is 9 months.

What I've found is that I need to take really, really small bites and go very slowly. I really hope that is not a lifelong thing - I know I can't wolf food down like I used to, but I would hope a small but "normal" bite would eventually work. The really tiny bites that get chewed to mush end up not tasting very good anyway.

One food I did find that works - shredded ham (or honey ham) from the store deli - I ask for the meat "shredded" which makes it very flaky and pretty easy to eat. I'd rather get Protein from food rather than shakes, so I feel good about that. I'm sure turkey or maybe even roast beef would work as well, and at least there's some flavor and it tastes good even after being chewed to death!

. String cheese and baby bel cheese tastes good chewed to death. :-)

I am working out with a trainer 3 days a week for the last 4weeks. I also got a fit bit and am trying to make sure I hit 10,000 steps a day. I am eating pretty much only Protein aka chicken, eggs, Protein Powder in sugar free pudding for some reason it's the only way I can get it in. Black bean Soup. Refried Beans. I don't know where I am going wrong.

Your body hold on to Water. It will pass. Stay the course. I had a stall week 3. I'm happy with any loss because I'm not gaining, but I'm not losing like some.

This thread has been a life saver for me. I am in a stall, was nauseated for weeks and so on and it means a lot to know I am not alone. Thanks all of you!

I am happy to say that 5 weeks out I'm down 35lbs! I have sooooo much to learn and tons of behavior changes to make but it's nice to see a little incentive! For those who've stalled-I did several times but it's like when there is a drop it's a good drop!

My loss is mainly in my face and neck. My boss tells me I'm the incredible shrinking head-I hope the rest catches up- I don't want to look like Violet!

Does anyone have any good Protein Shake recipes or advice? I bought a bunch of Unjury powders in different flavors but can't seem to get away from my Premier Protein shakes from costco. I don't want to waste the powders. Any suggestions?

I also are somewhat addicted to Premier Protein and have unopened Unjury shake mixes sitting on a shelf along with several packets of protein Soup mixes. I plan on taking them to my next bariatric group meeting to give to anyone who prefers Unjury. For me, the Premier Protein Shakes are a 60 g. protein foundation to my dieting.

Something about chocolate shake Snacks works for me. Sticking to our new diets is what is most important making sure we get our daily requirements including protein. It seems ironic that we are winners when we lose (weight)!

Unflavored with PB2 powdered Peanut Butter and unsweetened cocoa 1 tablespoon sweetened with stevia and add ice. I drink soy due to being lactose intolerant.

I mix in a frozen banana with my chocolate or strawberry Unjury and some soy milk and blend. The frozen banana adds nice flavor and thickens the drink to a shake consistency.

Couple packs of artifical sweetener (to taste)

I just realized that with my preOp liquid diet and postOp I have lost 6lbs per week on average. For a minute I didn't think I was losing that much. Crazy how our mind wants to discourage us into thinking it's not fast enough. Lol. I told myself to take a chill pill and enjoy this journey of living a healthy lifestyle. :-).

I use my Unjury vanilla in my coffee to make it like a latte (no sweeteners). I drink two each morning to jump start the day. For Snacks I eat a cheese stick and couple of Apple slices (small). Dinner-if I am concerned about the Protein I will make an Unjury cheese sauce to help boost the numbers.

I have never tried the Premier Protein but have lost my desire to drink any sweet drinks or Protein Bars made to be like a candy bar. Today I tried to eat trail mix but it had m&ms and I couldn't make myself eat them. I'm glad but worried I'll eventually get back all of those cravings.

I'm 2 mos out, sleeved 9/3 and I've lost 59lbs. My favorite Protein powder is not chocolate or vanilla but Syntrax Fuzzy Navel. I drink it everyday. Still looking for a good vanilla powder and I don't like pure Protein Shakes. I heard if you make your shakes the might before and keep them in the fridge overnight they aren't so gritty.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
